Pretty sure they don't use Miura blanks. They do use a forging house in Japan, but can't remember the name. Someone may chime in on which one. I'd bet it was the same one Scratch Golf used.

Amazing day at Artisan.

A quick tour and introductions was had. Could tell immediately the passion they have for producing the best product tailored to each individual.

Starting with the putter fitting first thing in the misty rain (still warmer than back in Calgary). We determined I have the putter I need, even though the specs were done remotely. John, as he does with most fittings, gave lessons on how to improve on what I was doing. I can't thank him enough.

The wedge fitting that followed was enlightening. A discussion was had on what I thought I needed my wedges to do, while they spec'd out my current Cleveland RTX4's (GW was 52.75° vs. the intended 52°, SW bang on 56°, LW at 62°). Grinds, weight, shafts, leading edge, etc were all explained.

We spent some time on the range hitting my wedges so we could get a feel for my desired (full swing) distances. More discussion followed inside as test wedges were selected.

Off to the practice are we went to figure out the optimal loft/grind for each of the wedges. Full shots, half shots, pitches, chips, everything was examined and evaluated.

Let me be clear, this was no easy task as I haven't had a club in my hand for two months (wrist/elbow issues plus crappy Calgary weather). Jamie was patient, and like John, gave advice on little adjustments to make to improve my short game.

Bottom line, I have three wedges in the queue to be built with Modus3 120 shafts in the lofts of 51°, 56° and 61°. The GW will serve mostly as a full swing club with some occasional chipping. The 61 is the specialty for short-side shots. The 56 is the go-to wedge. Chips, pitches, bunker shots, square, opened up, you name it.

I went with the basic raw, and only the Artisan logo and loft on the back. Simple, clean.

During the time I was there, many folks were in and out. A Champion Tour player for instance, along with others who have had Artisan work with them on equipment.

The stories that have from prior lifetimes to current is remarkable. The history they've been part of, interactions with some of the legends of golf was mind boggling.

I was honored to share the day with the crew, and happy that this relationship will continue. Once in a lifetime opportunity for me as there is nothing like this anywhere near me.

Jamie joined the Artisan team in October and is helping out with the fittings. I don't know if he's doing all of them or just some, but I imagine now that they are finally rolling the wedges out to the general public, they needed some help. Mike is still building the wedges.

I had a fitting with Jamie at the beginning of November, and it was a blast and very informative. He's a good guy and gave me lots of short game advice during the fitting. We were out there for more than 2 hours hitting shots from several greenside angles (uphill, downhill, with the grain, against the grain, flops, runners), 10 yard pitches, 40 yard shots, 80 yard shots, full shots at the range, maybe another area as well. He had me try different grinds and shafts and lofts throughout. And then another hour or so in the shop talking through everything and getting my current wedges measured. Just a really cool experience.

I'm getting a 50, 54, and 58 in bluebonnet with leading edge and toe relief in the 54 and 58 with DG S300 shafts. Can't wait to get them!

And I am no insider. I don't know a guy who knows a guy. I just found them on Instagram and reached out to get a putter made by John early last year, which was also a great experience. John even came by to greet me during the wedge fitting and to ask about the putter. I told him I was thinking about trying some lighter weights, and he painted some up for me to match my current ones during my fitting! Just great guys.

Shops that carry Edel wedges have a very thorough fitting process. The best version is done outdoors.

The fitter starts out helping you find the right sole grind and bounce for your swing, then the best shaft, and finally the proper loft combination.
