Golfing Ghost Story

One weekend, three years ago, I went alone to a course 40 mins away from my city to play 18 holes. My usual teammates were busy, so I decided to play alone even if there was no one available at the time I was arriving at this course. This course is very quiet, with not so many people playing since its location it's quite remote and near my city, there are plenty of other courses.

When I arrived, the woman in charge of the tee times informed me that there was no one there yet to play with me, so I decided to seize my day and went directly to the first hole. I made some practice swings and I placed my tee and my Bridgestone Ball on it. At that moment a guy appeared 20 yards away from me. He was staring at me. I decided to say “hi” and this guy quickly replied with “hi, may I join you”. “Sure”, I said. I explained to him that I was planning to play alone since the woman in charge said no one was registered to play at that time, and he said: “yeah, I’ve just arrived, and I feel I never left”.

After 7 holes, we arrived at a very long par 5, with OOB at the right. I hit a quite decent tee shot and this guy sent his ball to a small forest on the left. When we were walking towards his ball, he said, “please do not come with me, go and play your ball”. I gently replied “ok, but I just want to help you looking for your ball, I believe I saw the ball bouncing around those trees”. Again, he stared at me and said “please, do not come with me, I need to do this by myself”. “Ok, no problem", I replied. The man continued walking towards the small forest and I went close to my ball. I checked with my ranger the distance to the hole, 268 yards. I picked up my 2 iron. I knew it was impossible to get to the green since the green was massively protected by bunkers and the crosswind was really tricky, but anyway I was planning to go as close as possible to the hole. I made some practice swings and I turned back to inform this man I was planning to hit my ball.

When I turned back, the man was gone. My first thought was that he was somewhere between the trees, but I saw that the bag he had on the rough was also gone. For some reason I cannot explain I put my 2 iron on my bag and I grabbed my 60 degrees wedge and I started walking towards the forest. When I was walking I realized I never asked for his name, so I just said quite loud “hey, are you there”? Nothing.

When I arrived at the small forest, I did a quick search, and there were no traces of him. I was extremely worried that something could have happened to him. When I decided to go back to my bag to grab my phone and call the woman in charge, I got frozen. 10 yards away from me there was a small grave with a pink flower on it: “here lies Mr. Robert Shawn, who tragically died searching for his ball in this forest in 1992”. I walked to the grave. The picture on it showed the face of a man. It was the guy who played with me during almost 8 holes.

The only spooky thing that's happened to me on the golf course is that I occasionally turn up with great form and it vanishes into thin air somewhere around the turn...

Friggin cool story! Well done, especially if it really happened to you.

I don't know if ghosts are real, but I've played with guys who stood over the ball so long I thought they were dead.

always wondered why ghosts and aliens don't just show up in the middle of NYC. As soon as i read "remote"...i have seen aliens in the outbacks of Australia too

I do recall sneaking on trent park golf course in North London, whiles it was raining a little...some lightning, got some electricity through my 8 iron and run like hell off the course.

Cool story. If it were true I would probably not ave finished and got the hell out of there.
