Snake bit!

Recommended Posts

Treated myself to a early Christmas present. Set of snake eyes 600c/b combo set 3-5 600c and 6-9 600b. These rank up there with some of the most beautiful set of forged irons I've seen. The way they set behind the ball is something else. Just a hint of offset. Blade lenth sets somewhere between my Wilson fg-51 and tommy armour 986 tour's. The range is calling my name. f9y249x2yvul.jpg

Yes sir, Snake Eyes made some quality component heads during this era. Had a set of those 600C in the bag for a few years. Excellent forged heads. One of those sets that I should never have sold off, for next to nothing. Dumb. They were designed by Jeff Sheets (he of legendary '99 Hogan Apex fame) along with a variety of other SE heads from Golfsmith. At one time, every club in the bag was Snake Eyes. Put a SE 675TM SW back into service this fall.

Those were the days. Would await the arrival of the catalog every January to check out the new heads. Golfsmith would run sales and discounts at the same time on prior season's merchandise. One could put together an excellent bag of implements and save a bunch of $$ compared to OEM. And give up nothing in performance and playability. What got me started in club building and tinkering.

Some background information on those 600's and other Sheets Design Group heads [here](https://www.jeffsheetsgolf.com/snake-eyes---past-projects "here"). 3PRL, enjoy your new irons. Indeed, they are a great looking set of heads.

I had no ideal sheets designed the 99 apex but it does make since. I have a set of 99 apex plus irons and you can defiantly see a resemblance in them and his cavity back designs he did for snake eyes. Id like to get my hands on a nice set of ev wedges.

If you have deep pockets 3PRL, here's a set of minty [EV wedges](https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Snake-Eyes-Wedge-Set-3-Made-by-Ernie-Vaderson-EV-Very-Rare/323942560135?hash=item4b6c7b3187:g:9igAAOSwikNcslMQ "EV wedges") for you. Don' know what distinguishes EV wedges (touched by the man, pre-Golfsmith) from the those sold by GS once they acquired the Snake Eyes brand. The GS SE wedges (numbered) show up with regularity on eBay. Seem to recollect that there were iron heads that had "EV" stamped on them. The SE S & W heads?

I think I still have some numbered Snake Eyes wedges over in the building across the street. I ended up with them after my partner in the golf shop passed away. For some reason he had an affection for them sorta like I do with 588 Cleveland and 252 Vokeys. He had a lot of clubs in the storage facility we rented together. After he passed his wife wanted nothing to do with the stuff and gave them to me. I tried to pay her and she would not accept a dime. Said Big John would have wanted it that way
