PING College Golf Guide

For those of you with access to the PING guide, what sections have you found the most useful? There seems to be so much information it's a bit overwhelming. TIA

I don't have access, but would also be interested in understanding the relevant and useful tools available.

After a quick glance, it looks like it's probably targeted towards parents/juniors who are already going through or about to enter the recruiting process?

Based on what I know, (don’t currently have) one of the best features is it allows you to save time by inputting your kid’s scoring average as compared to a particular team or vs field in major tournament (demo page on home page).

You can then see where they would place/rank as compared to the players on the travel squad. Ex. Your kid averages 74 on courses 7100 yds. You input data to see if they would be able to compete for D1 school.

You keep plugging into as compared to different schools until that 74 average ranks as being better than say the #3 player’s average scores. That way, you can get a good idea whether they have a high likelihood of making the travel team.

Then, your kid can make a better targeted effort to reach out to coaches at schools with a high probability of response/playing time. The top D1’s 74 average would probably be on the practice squad...maybe.

I looked at average for a #3 player for a school ranked near #100-D1. The average was 72 for tourneys played this year, so, my kid might consider putting them on a B list to contact and move to look at other schools. See the most recent article of college golf by Brendan Ryan...not much chance of walking on at D1.

Alternatively, your kid may want to look at D2, D3, NAIA, JC where they can shine for a couple years and move up to D1 or, stay where they are and enjoy their college experience as a scholar/athlete.

Don't know if it is Ping or Golf Stat, but there is a way to tell what colleges have coming and going in terms of class. Gives you an idea if a coach has a lot of spots or very few to none to fill for a particular year.
