So I need new irons after having just about everything under the sun to try. Question is should I buy existing model or wait. Doesn’t sound like anything too exciting iron wise in the pipe for next year

Depends on what your looking at and what is coming out. If irons you like are being replaced make sure you get a good discount! If not wait to test new ones.

I just snagged a set of mp-18 mb for $700 new. MP-20 mb are $1200! Yes newer ones are nice but not $500 nicer. Not in a blade! Just be weary of replacement cycles. Nothing pisses me off more than paying full price for clubs to be a model year old when season starts. If I’m gonna pay full price I want it to be current for at least a full season lol

If not sure. Ask on here

Also, I like buying in fall/winter. That gives me plenty of time to get used to them. I occasionally play on winter when it’s not freezing. Hit balls in heated driving range...come spring season I don’t have to get comfortable immediately. Gives me sometime to get used to new equipment

Yeah agreed with blades. If you get a good price just play those and wait it out. The price always seems to drop dramatically on them. I may grab a set of JPX-919 Ts when the price comes down. Have a set of the 900 that might be worn (maybe) once that day comes.

If you happen upon a set you like, buy them. Forget about iron sales cycles as the existing models may be 99.9% as good as the new shiny model. Of course, the oems want to convince us otherwise thru their bs marketing.

If you've done your research and see nothing major on the horizon that you think you'd like better, I would say go for it. I did a ton of research/trying out and finally pulled the trigger this week on a new set once I found a deal that I was very comfortable with. Like @LaymanM said above, I'll now have all winter to hit the new sticks (there's a simulator near me and I'm not very far from a couple heated driving ranges, including a Top Golf) and once winter breaks I will be used to the changes

I would say that irons are the least impacted by modern tech advancements. Generally speaking. If your due to upgrade, I wouldn't hesitate now. Tending to see incremental differences.

From how you've phrased it, I'm gathering that you've tried everything that's out there right now and nothing has really impressed you. If that's the case, then why not wait till next year?

Buying golf clubs is just like buying a car - there is never a good time to buy because something better is always around the corner. Buy used when you can.

This batch of piranhas just wants to see something new hit the BST...Reminds me of when I worked at a golf shop in Portland back in the 90's. When we saw someone walk in the door with clubs in their hands, we would race over to be the first one to claim whatever they might be trading in! Usually had a strip of masking tape on it with our name before it ever hit the counter...
