Palm Springs. Maybe not crazy warm, but decent enough and there is everything from highend shopping to a massive outlet mall.

Vegas would be a great option except we were just there for a week at the end of October. Golfed at Painted Desert and Angel Park. Looking for a new venue.

> Charleston, SC- Can’t bank on it, but there is a good chance of temperate and very pleasant temps early December. Could be colder, but very good chance looking at mid 60’s, which to me is paradise (considering it is HOT AF for a good part of the year here)

Never been there, but sounds interesting. I know there are lots of golf courses in SC so I'll check it out.

second the palm springs. Stay in Palm Desert and send your wife down to El Paseo shopping district. The weather is probably the best you will find for December in the US.

Are you sure its a Harrod's? No matter, really, I was just looking to see where it is, and couldn't find it.

A few courses to consider that I've played, and I know there are lots more:

Classic Club

Silverrock (disliked by many after its recent re-design, but still enjoyable)

Eagle Falls (next to Fantasy Springs Casino, a pretty good value)

Desert Willow (2 good courses, Firecliff is the tougher)

PGA West (multiple courses, the Stadium Course is the big name, Norman Course was fun but not exceptional)

You might search the forum for more suggestions, I'm sure you'll find lots.

Thanks for the heads up on Harrah's not being near Palm Springs. Changed our reservation to Aqua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage. Can you advise me on courses near there that would be worth playing. I'm not looking for anything really fancy... just playable and a well maintained course.

Looks like there is a Gary Player Signature Course near by. Any good?

Real close to your hotel:

Escena is not expensive but usually in good shape and pretty good (no range).

Mission Hills Players Course - The Pete Dye one is better.

Shadow Ridge - Faldo design so difficult greens and deep bunkers.

Classic Club

Desert Willow

a little further down the road:

Eagle Falls

Indian Wells

PGA West Courses

You will have no shortage of real good courses, but it just depends on which ones are not closed for over-seeding (or just re-opened) and what you are willing to pay.

As for shopping, you will want to hit the usual suspects for golf (PGA Superstore, Roger Dunn's, Pete Carlson's).

For the wife: El Paseo will damage your credit card if you let her run rampant. The Outlet Malls in Cabazon can eat up an entire day.

Lots of other things to do depending on how warm it is (PS Air Museum, Zoo, hiking, Aerial Tramway, Patton Museum, etc...).
