Odyssey Stroke Lab Black Ten

Didn't see a recent thread about this so I thought I'd start one.

Got to try out the Ten, Ten S and the Bird of Prey at my local PGATSS. I compare it to my gamer the Spider X Copper.

The Ten (and S version) are obviously the clones everyone say. It is pretty sleek and modern tech looking but doesn't look as well built has a Spider in my opinion. Kinda that plastic copy feel especially where the fins are. But this thing performs as well as the Spider in every aspect. That this top line is great if you like that and the insert is the best version of the micro hinge tech in my opinion. Feels fantastic --- but not necessarily better than my current gamer. Just different, and a little softer. I also think it's slightly lighter than a normal Spider.

Rolls just as well. My distance control is just as good as with my putter.

I couldn't really tell any advantages gained from the stroke lab shaft vs the KBS shaft in the Spider X.

Over the ball, the height of the putter feels flatter than a spider and the swing weight is comparable to the Spider X. I prefer the S model (same as my Spider X) over the double bend but they are equally great. Nearly holed a 50ft putt (stopped short 2 inches) on my first try.

Usually though, I experienced a couple of yips with it. Something I'm don't experience with the Spider. That was double for the Bird of Pre

The Bird of Prey's head it bigger than I expected. Face-balanced only and too big for my liking, and slightly too light for me. It feels very good, but I yipped almost very stroke I gave it. Granted, it was only like 5 strokes, but I immediately knew this putter wasn't for me.

Lastly, and this is personal preference, the stock grip on the Spider X is way better than the stock fat grip of the Odyssey.

Regarding the Ten however, it's just as good as the Spider X for me for performance. The Ten will never replace it but it could for those who simply prefer Odyssey putters, and don't mind the comparison conversations. I don't think it looks as nice (as premium), but it does have a techy appeal. It's also $50 cheaper.

If I'd rate the Spider X a 10.0, I'd rate the Ten a 9.5.

The stock grips on the Odysseys have grown on me. But I’ll agree the SS grip on the spider x is better.

Otherwise? I think the Ten is better than the spider X and spider tour at everything. Ten looks higher end to me, I’m honestly surprised you feel the opposite. Spider durability is notoriously awful too so I’m factoring that in as well.

Ten sets up on the ground better. Ten has a lot more MOI. Ten insert feels way better. It doesn’t feel as hollow as the spider. Ten alignment is better (although that’s subjective, I still like the blank Tour look too). The lower balance point of the Stroke Lab setup feels better to me as well.

I never liked the more rounded off spider X look - I prefer the more square shape of the Tour and Ten for alignment.

I have yet to experience any problems with the Spider X. All else, as I spoke about, is comparable to me, but I think the Spider X looks a bit more premium.

Just my opinion in a sea of opinions here in WRX. To each their own.

I was debating between two other putters (one being the Odyssey Exo mini 7) but after rolling a Ten today at PGA Tour SS, it will be my next putter. Very confidence-inspiring and very straight. It's an obvious copy of the spider, but I owned a spider and it felt more hollow to me than the Odyssey Ten.

I got to try them in store. I made a loft of good strokes with the 10s and Spider X. but for whatever reason the ball seem to roll better to my eye with the spider X.

I need to try them on a real green. $50 less stands out to me LOL

I want to get spider x or the 10s for black Friday ...

Just got a Ten double bend. Had a Spider X slant. I like the feel of the insert on the Ten better. More solid feeling. The shaft in the Ten does have a different feel to it. For me it is not good or bad, just different. I did like the SS grip on the Spider but they always wear so fast. I do like the textured feel of the Odyssey grip. Very different but both good.

I think these are very comparable putters and would happily game either but I did sell my X after getting the Ten and I had made a lot of putts with that X.

Oh, and the headcover of the Ten is much better than the Spider. It is magnetic and the Velcro on the Spider cover is crap.
