Snell MTB black or MTB x

What's everyone's opinions on the Snell golf balls? Worth the money or not.

161 pages of replies. I like them so far. The feel is a little hard, but they spin well on the greens, and they are long. I'm not big on feel, and I basically want ball that hits the green and stops. I don't want to the ball to suck back. Here in the southeast it is harder said than done. Greens get fast and hard, so you have to play a ball that spins. I have debated switching to a surlyn ball to help with limiting driver spin and for the price point, but I don't want to give up the green control, and the Snell is great at $30 a dozen which is about the max I am willing to spend

I've played a few different balls the past few years including the Snell models. If you like the ProV or Srixon ZStar you'd probably like the Black. Great ball. Feels soft. Very workable. I just started playing the MTB-X the past month or two and really like it. I like a firm, workable ball that doesn't balloon (my swing results in that) and the X is great for me. For me, also, it's the most consistently long ball off the tee I've played. Only MTB-X in my bag as I type this...

firmer feel but long as any premium ball. i can't see paying 2x for another ball as the performance is just as good.

I liked the original Snell MTB and like the MTB Black equally as well. These are a great performance/value option.

Played MTB-Red for a season, have been playing MTB-X for the last year. Very solid all around ball. Red was a bit softer, MTB-X was a very nice improvement IMO. I tried Black a few times, but it never stood out for me as the MTB-X does.

I also tried the Bridgestone Tour BX (liked this better than their Tour BXS or RX models). Very little difference between the Snell MTB-X and the Bridgestone Tour BX in my opinion - so for about $5 less per dozen, I go with the Snells.

Most important to me is the feel off my putter. Snell MTB-X and Bridgestone Tour BX feel very similar to me, more on the firm side (but not clicky) - vs a mushy feel - ball gets to the hole more often. Spin on approach shots is a bit more with the Snell MTB-X. Driver is about the same, with the MTB-X occasionally getting out there a bit more often.

So overall - to your question - yes they are the real deal and worth considering.

I’ve played the Pro V1 with a few flings with the V1x since they came out, which is what 2000? I bought a Snell trial pack, 6 Black 6 MTB-X. I could be happy playing either ball. Distance off the tee is the same for me. Same with the irons. Some say the X spins more off the irons. Meh. Both spin the way you expect a tour ball to spin. Just a matter of which you prefer. And sometimes you want an approach shot to stick where it lands and other times you wish it would roll out a few more feet. The X does spin more around the green. So if your short game relies on a lot of spin with the wedges you’ll prefer the X. The Black definitely has a softer feel, especially off the driver.

Played both. Try the trial pack as noted above. The BLACK worked best for me of the two. I am one of those who spins the MTBx bit much which I am not a fan of. I spin the ball alot and my normal gamer is the TP5x.

You will be hard pressed to find a ball for the money currently if they fit your game.
