We have only played in younger age divisions, so it doesn't really matter. However, if my kid were older I would be fine with front and back 9 roamers as well. Honestly, I'm not sure if these officials are volunteers or getting paid, but if getting paid then that means more cost which means the cost will be passed on to the consumer (us). Tournaments are expensive enough as it is.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

I can't remember where you are but Cali Jr Golf has at least one tournament director every day (most of the time there are two) plus two assistants out there roaming around. The tour hasn't grown very fast but they are doing a great job getting this started and are playing great tracks. Best news for 2020 is no more caddies for any of the flights!

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

I'm NorCal. Will be playing JGANC mostly in 2020. The next year, we'll be playing JTNC and JGANC.

I am asking because I was just wondering everyone’s thoughts on this.

We done everything now from US Kids to AGJA and have a few 54 hole events planned coming up. From all this I am finding out that a lot events that don’t have a lot officials are a lot more casual. My daughter has started telling me that she feels like is a more important event if she see’s officials all over the place so she is more focused and so is everyone else and doesn’t want do certain tournaments do to lack of officials. Kids just seem to be more focused and paying attention which leads to more paying attention to others and more pressure overall. I definitely have also noticed a difference in play.

In some tournaments you will only see an official once or twice a round while others will see A lot of officials and those officials will even follow the group. This especially true at state level and AGJA Tournaments.

I also noticed overall scores tend to be higher in events with a lot officials and live scoring. I am thinking that in events with less officials kids have to make there own rulings more often and in some cases the free drops, out of bounds are taken with a little more liberty then they should be taking.

Most tournaments we attended with live scoring tends to have lots of officials all over.

We had no problem finding officials this past weekend. Needed them on a couple of different occasions.

Officials are paid by the association running the tournament. Associations with a larger fee usually has more officials. IMG had one official that was paired to roam through 4-6 groups and stay with those groups which was nice.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.
