Help on our last course - Fort Lauderdale/Miami January Trip

Hi everyone - headed to FTL in January with the guys. We have two days decided on (Jacaranda East & West, Plantation Preserve). We're struggling on the last day and wanted to get everyone's opinion between:

- Trump Silver Fox

- Osprey Point

- Emerald Hills

- Anything else you guys can suggest

I have not played Silver Fox, but have played the other 3 Doral courses and I am sure it is excellent, but 3 times the price as Osprey and Emerald Hills. Of Osprey Point and Emerald Hills, I prefer Osprey Point. The conditions will be better but,t the greens won't be super fast. (Paspalum greens aren't super fast) Emerald Hills in the winter will have fast greens, but the rest of the course won't be in great shape, probably just above average. It will be tough to get a tee time on Osprey. The local players card players get extra time to book a tee time and they book up all the tee times.

Thanks for the feedback and interesting note about Osprey. Any other courses you think we should consider?

It depends on how far you want to drive. Are you staying in downtown Fort Lauderdale? You have listed the best courses in Broward county on the list. If you are willing to drive, you could go to PGA National. I am not sure if you have to stay at the hotel to play, but Turnberry in Aventura has 2 good golf courses. Marriott recently bought Turnberry, so I think you could get on there without staying there. Other courses to consider, but are not on the level of the Jacaranda or Plantation preserve are Deer Creek, Pembroke Lakes, Miami Shores, and Crandon Golf.

I prefer Osprey Point over Emerald Hills. But it depends on what courses you can get on at Osprey Point.

You might want to try Jacaranda. I preferred Jacaranda over those two.

I'd stay away from Deer Creek. Just hasn't been in that great of shape and overpriced for the condition it is in.

TPC Eagle Trace is a great test when the wind blows. Lots of water (except 9 and 18 due to grandstand allowances)

Conditions at this point I am not so sure on, could be dodgy

How far to do a day trip to play one of the Streamsong tracks?

The last time I played Eagle Trace the conditioning was awful.

Ft. Lauderdale to Streamsong is close to 4 hours. Streamsong is good, but it's not worth 4 hours of driving to and paying $300+ for a round of golf, good.

Agree on Osprey, one of the 9's is NFG

If you want to do Doral but not the Blue Monster then I'd recommend Red Tiger over Silver Fox.

Thanks - at this point Silver Fox has been agreed upon but took some convincing seeing at it's $213. Looks like Red Tiger is $286 so it would really take some arm twisting on my end. Is it that much better or is Silver Fox in general not worth that rate but RT is?

I had played both in a stay and play package where they were included so it cost nothing for RT and SF, Blue Monster was a $200 upcharge. To be honest, I wouldn't pay that rate for SF or RT but RT is the better course of the two. It plays longer and more of an actual course. SF meanders around homes and doesn't have a feel of being on a golf course as few holes actually abut each other.

I've played all 4 a few times in the last couple of years and I'd put the silver fox only behind the blue. The red course is shorter with some funky greens, it's my least favorite course, but they are all in better shape than other course in Miami.
