Putter testing over (for this year)

First off - I love buying and testing putters! However, I don't really like putting or owning them. Big Freaking headcase.

Started the year with an Odyssey Black 7s. Putted ok with it. Nothing special, nothing horrible. Just like every other year.

Also in the stable were my old Ping Redwood Anser, and Odyssey Protype iX #1.

During the year, I picked up a Scotty Futura 5.5M, Newport 2 Select (2016?), TM Ardmore 3, and Ping B60 Vault 2.0.

Conclusion - 

I am definately a headcase, LOL.  I've found that I like the look of a blade better than a mallet. I'll keep the 7s, but I prefer my old Redwood and iX.  The Redwood is back in the bag like an old frenemy. I keep putting stats and my averages were within a 1/2 stroke across the board even though I feel like I putt better with a blade.  I guess you could say it proves that it is the indian and not the arrow, but where is the fun in that?  I've already jettisoned the TM and B60. The Scotty's will be moved soon.  Which means, I'll probably start accumulating more putters during the winter.

I also realized that I do not like the Super Stroke grips.  I had one on the 7s, Newport 2, and B60.  Never could get comfortable with it. I've put a midsize Winn grip on the 7s, a midsized Ping 58 grip on the Redwood, and have an old Odyssey paddle grip on the iX

I have a putter like your redwood Anser. I have tried many putters over the years, but this one always finds its way back to the bag. Not as pretty as it once was, a bit older and worn just like me

A friend and fellow club affectionado commented on how well I putt when this one is in the bag. As we laughed about the “need” to experiment I had the thought............ never under estimate an old guy with a well used and mildly worn putter. It’s possible they’ve spent enough time together to become old friends.

Im obsessed with the Scotty Cameron Newport 2.5's. I have owned 3 and so terrible with them its not even funny. With that being said, My gamer is a Cameron Futura 6M with a SS Pistol GT and make so many clutch putts with it its not even funny either. 5 footers and 12 footers I just drain all day long and every time I make one I look at my Futura and say "This thing is so stupid looking and feels terrible" but it just flat out works. Then I go home and dream about a custom Newport 2.5 with the Pistolini grip and sulk. Go Figure!
