Good for him. The kid had quite the interesting up-bringing. Goes to show that not all young juniors grow up with the country club life. If you are really good at golf, doors will open up for you.

Of the 18 ranked players they have an average of 1.26 scoring diff and an average ranking of 542.

Of the 8 D1 ranked players they have an average of -1.18 scoring diff and an average ranking of 163.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

For @kekoa

Ethan Chung to USC. Verbally committed back on Dec 11th **2016**.

So he committed at age 14? Impressive stuff and solid tournament finishes.

Jack Hamilton is Canadian

Toni St. John is actually a girl out of AZ. Not sure why she's listed under the boys.

It is cool to see that not all of the D1 recruits are super highly ranked. I mean the USC coach stated that ideally he would like to get kids who are ranked top 10 within their class. I'd assume every program would be after these kids, many of which have much stronger golf programs than USC per se. Add the fact that some schools have full practice and golf courses on campus and things get even more tough.

Most Likely International students. A few will have residences here in the state. Others, the schools just aren't great at golf like Siena.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

Avg Diff: -1.28

Avg Rank: 175

And this is just day 2. Kids will get added and fill in spots that will make the average rank go up. The 2 kids on my son's HS team are not on that list yet and they are going to D1 schools and I don't believe either is top 400 in their class.

Yes. It puts things into perspective. I think top 100 is essential for big programs, but D1 golf in general is not as impossible as I originally thought. One kid who we see often signed for Washington state and is ranked something like 500.

I agree it does make it seem more achievable. I guess when you think about the number of D1 programs out there (almost 300?) and the fact they probably need 2 new players a year, that amounts to 600. Some of the really elite like Akshay might go pro, and there are a lot of solid D3 and D2 schools good players might want to play for.

My son was telling me about a friend of his and several of the schools that came to see him this summer. I reminded him that his friend can only go to one of those schools. That means they will be looking for other kids. I know my son has a hard time rationalizing that his friend from school is a running back and has 8 D1 offers as a sophomore and seems to add another one every other week. Golf is very different.

Golfweek’s is good for all the kids I know. They have all my students on there. None are on JGS site

The player has to send the signing into JGS.

Yes why I said they rely on self reporting. And many of the top players don’t care to email JGS

Good read. I particularly thought this was noteworthy:

"WOMEN

Average scoring differential for NCAA D1 Women: 1.8

1.8! Wow. Very significant since this number has basically been cut in half the last 2 years; the 2018 number was close to 8, 2019 was close to 4 and now it is 1.8. Big improvements for the quality of junior golfer available for coaches to recruit."

This is not a surprise to me, Brendan thought 2019 class was going to be a stacked women’s class compared to 2017 and 2018. I told him I believed 2020 was going to be a monster women’s class. I believe the 2021 class not to have the depth this 2020 or 2019 had. One thing to remember not all signings are finished. I would expect that differential number to go up a bit as more kids sign.

With these two classes 2019 and 2020 being so strong, many current college women from 2017 and 2018 HS class may struggle to find playing time within the top 5 on their college team in the next few years.

what is the average course rating the average women plays prior to graduating and being recruited.

from what I see that is probably 73-75 which means there scoring between 75-77 if you round up the 1.8 diff. That means there scoring 3-5 holes above par on average. In some cases course there playing are tougher because of more tournaments then there used to be.

i understand the harder the course the harder it to score part but a lot the reason the rating is higher has to do with distance.

while I think diff over course rating is a good indicator of setups which no doubt is hard. I also think scoring 3-5 over par for a college recruit not what i consider amazing either and would almost expect it to be better then is.

Having a child in the 2021 class in Virginia. Its not as stacked at the top but a lot of good quality golfers. In 2020 class we know all those kids coming out of Virginia. Danielle S, Michael, George, etc.

He has seen an uptick in college emailing since around October. Alot of road trips over the next year.
