What does LA Golf have in store for iron shafts? I desire something that isn’t really available in the market. A taper tip 120 gram in stiff flex with a balance point that doesn’t destroy swingweight. Please tell me there is something in the works! BTW, I’m a big Bryson fan. I watched the kid grow up and played a bit of golf with his dad back in the day.

I play quite a few matrix shafts, flex wise how similar does the LA Golf flex systems compare to the old system? For example, did you maintain the regular, firm, stiff, strong, extra-stiff type of shaft flex options with the butt cpm on the label of the shaft like matrix previously did? And if so are the flexes still comparable, like an old matrix stiff flex = la golf stiff flex, or is it more of your own take at this point?

I'm also interested in the previous questions from others regarding iron shafts and what is to be expected in the future. But in addition, do you have any intentions of ever making an iron shaft that is more affordable than what is currently offered to compete with a product like steelfiber or recoil shafts for example?

Another question that ive been batting around in my head is what on earth is the benefit of a graphite putter shaft realistically? The putter is moving at such a slow speed, does it really matter what the shaft is when it comes to accuracy or distance? Or is the primary purpose strictly feel based?

We have seen some of the worlds top players put these shafts in play for a short time and then return to their old shafts, can you shed some light on the reasoning? With competitors using similar materials, what sets these shafts apart from the crowd?

It seems putter shaft tech is starting to gain some traction again with the tour tp and stability shafts I've seen lately on golfwrx. What kind of feedback have you received on the tour tp putter shaft from professionals? And do you see putter shafts eventually getting to the point where you offer different profiles similar to flex in driver shafts?

We will be introducing a new series of shafts, our Tour AXS line. The Tour AXS series will have a low launch (Tour AXS Black), mid launch (Tour AXS Red), and high launch (Tour AXS White). These are re-engineered versions of the popular Ozik Flight Series (OFS) shafts from Matrix. The Tour AXS Black gets it lineage from the Ozik Black M5. The changes made to this shaft mostly involve stiffening in the mid third of the shaft for added stability while maintaining the low/mid launch, low spin characteristics that the Ozik Black line was known for.

Thanks for the question!

Honestly we are working on a lot of different iron projects at this time. You may have heard about the 'Rebar' iron shafts we produced in conjunction with our player/partner Bryson DeChambeau. These, as the name alludes to, are very, very stiff, to provide ultimate control over shot launch, shot spin, and shot shape, something Bryson demands. Because Bryson uses 'One Length' irons, the first version of these to be released will be 'One Length', with standard length versions to follow. Also working currently with Jason Dufner to produce a standard length product that is more in line with current stiffness profiles. The plan for these is to have constant weight sets in various flexes in a few weight categories, most likely around 95 and 120 grams. Look for these in mid 2020.

And, YES, graphite is the future of irons. The simple reason is that because graphite is a large family of materials, the design possibilities are almost endless. With steel or other metals you have only a small set of alloys to work with, so flex profile, torque, weight, balance, etc.. must fall within a small envelope. Composite materials, of which graphite is a member, allow for limitless manipulation of any and all properties of the shaft. Can I design a shaft that is 90 grams that is stiffer and lower in torque than 130 gram steel with a balance point that allows for the use of the same heads. The answer is yes with graphite, and a resounding 'NO' with steel

Stay tuned to see what we come up with working with our player partners.

Thanks for the great question!

See that answer above to QuigleyDU's question. The simple answer is yes, we do plan to have heavier (120 gram) irons that have a balance point that will allow the use of standard heads and maintain normal swingweights. Back in my Aldila days I designed several product lines around this concept, or few of which were used to win PGA Tour events. Stay tuned!

Thanks for the question.

Damn, that's a lot of questions. The flex system will change slightly. We are only going to have standard A, R, S, X, and TX flexes. We will no longer have firm or strong. And, with our new premium tour line the stiffnesses will be slightly stiffer than the old Matrix products.

On iron shafts we will offer some more competitively priced products in our new Tour AXS line.

The benefit of graphite in a putter is simple. Yes, the putter is moving slowly, but due to the weight of the head there is still measurable deflection both in bending and torsion during the putter stroke. Think about it this way, if your putter flexes and torques just prior to impact to the extent of only 1 degree of rotation, that would relate to being over 4 inches off target on a 20 foot putt. So even if you putt the perfect stroke on the ball, you still miss by 2 inches. Taking as much flex and torque out of a putter shaft makes perfect sense. Unlike irons and woods, you are not looking for your putter shaft to store and release energy for you. You want the putter head to react precisely to the input provided by your hands, arms, and shoulders. The do this the shaft must form as solid a connection between your hands and the head a possible.

Our TP putter line, which has already won a number of PGA Tour events with Bryson and Kevin Na, are extremely stiff and low torque. But, we've put a couple of unique materials into the laminate which gives outstanding feel back the shaft without sacrificing stiffness and torsional rigidity. Be weary of putter shafts that are a combination of materials, like having steel tips. Remember, a structure is only as stiff as its weakest part. Steel is less than half as stiff as some of the materials we use in our TP putter shafts.

Thanks for the great question(s)!

Yes, we are currently working on a limited release of 'Rebar' iron shafts sometime early next year.

Bryson was looking for control and consistency. He wanted to be able move his ball flight down a bit, but maintain desired spin characteristics. He found in testing we did with his short irons that the stiffer he went, the better he could control his shot height and shape. And the 'Rebar' design also let him achieve the spin rates he desired. Bryson is all about stability and consistency.

Thanks for the question!!
