Ping G410 VS Callaway Epic Flash

After countless of fairway wood fittings it finally boiled down to a 15 degree Callaway Epic Flash with a stiff evenflow white shaft, and a 17.5 degree Ping G410 with a stiff tensei orange shaft.

The G410 carries the ball almost 10 yards further than the epic flash, however with mishits taken into account the dispersion is significantly wider with falls in carry distance and balls straying away from the line. The epic flash does not carry it as far, but it has a tighter dispersion even with mishits.

considering I'm a 14 handicap and i'm currently fine tuning my swing to eliminate those wild fades and off center hits that I get every now and then. Which one would you guys recommend? (I've been playing with Ping ever since I started, maybe that's why i'm having a hard time choosing)

I would recommend to go for G410. Go for the distance. Dispersion starts to matter when you can hit series consistent clean.

I was thinking the same thing. I feel like there is more room for improvement for me to get both distance and a tight dispersion, whereas with the epic flash I will only tighten my dispersion as I improve (i could be wrong though). A second opinion is always nice. Thanks man!

You're correct. Any good fitter can tighten up dispersion and get some distance gains with shaft recommendations. We've had a lot of success with the G410s in that regard. and limited success with the Epic Flash to be honest. We're not sure why, but the PINGs are just better in that regard no matter what we try for a customer. Needless to say, we've sold a LOT of G410s.

Based on what you've said, I'd take the extra distance of the PING. I also found the G410 a touch easier to hit, personally.

Do you need more distance from the FW wood is the question I would ask. I personally don't want my 3 wood flying 290+ because then it's a driver and leaves a gap, I want control out of my 3 wood. But if you need more length out of it go with the longer club!

Have you tried the EF White in the 410?

That could be the dispersion factor......

For my game, my 3 wood is first and foremost a position club off the tee. I want it to have tight dispersion with adequate distance. Off the turf I again want dispersion with adequate distance. No point having a wayward 3 wood in the bag since it should be used to find a tight fairway off the tee or attack a Par 5.

I own both of these, but with different shafts.

For me the Epic is longer off the tee but tends to go left, especially when hitting off the deck. The Ping flies much straighter and is more consistent off the deck but not quite as long off the tee. I find the callaway woods to be a bit hooky.

If your miss is a slice then maybe that's why you hit the Callaway straighter.

The g310 lst is one of the best looking 3w out there

Very interested in this thread. I have the EF 5 wood at 17*. It has the tensei av blue 70 stiff and it has more often than not been left city for me. Very frustrating to the point of looking at the g410. I'm sure it's the shaft in the Callaway but considering moving to the ping .

Sounds to me like you are not launching the Callaway as you would ideally like - hence the difference despite the lower loft of the Callaway.

The Ping must be launching a fair bit higher and so carrying further.

I think from memory when I tried it, the Even flow launched a fair bit lower.

interesting data.. whats your swing speed？I have the EF 3wood also and I find it not so good .. Im going to try the ping vs cobra when I get to a western country

I probably should have, but the G410 does not have the even flow green as a shaft option

Had the chance to take both clubs for a quick nine yesterday, ended up going to the G410. After refining my swing, the G410 is just as or even more predictable than the Epic flash and it goes significantly longer. Moreover, my misses with the G410 are a lot more playable than when I go off centre with the Epic flash. Definitely give the Ping a try!

I've only had one Cobra club and that didn't go so well for me but I'm sure that is highly personal. My swing speed is around 95-96 mph with the fairway wood.
