Hello my fellow nutmeggers! What is your favorite course to play in Connecticut and why?

I'm really looking to go out and play some gems this coming year :)

I live in MA but my favorite CT course is Connecticut National in Putnam. Less than an hour away for me and is always in great shape. And they allow walking on weekends!

Yale and it's not even close. So underrated.

Yale and New Haven CC

Played Bull's Bridge in Kent for the first time a few weeks ago.

I live in Stamford and count me if you are open to double up during 2020 weekends on a public course (18 handicap)

First post here, but have been a long time reader and decided to sign up to be able to share my own thoughts on topics. Living in western Mass, I play a bit of golf in CT as well and my favorites would be Wintonbury Hills and Gillette Ridge. I had the chance to play Keney Park in the fall, but it was right after aeration, I enjoyed the layout and plan on playing again in the Spring.

Have not yet had an opportunity to play Yale, looking to somehow get on there this upcoming season.

RJohn- where are you favorites in western mass? I'm right by the airport. My buddy and I play Oak Ridge once or twice a week mid day. Any place else you recommend?

Gillette Ridge is really nice. So is Keeney park. Keeney had multi tiered greens and hard pin placements last time I was there. Fairways are pretty wide open but the greens made it very challenging for me. Simsbury farms was a nice course and pretty good value, I think it was 30$ and the course was in beautiful shape mid October.

In western mass, The Ranch is a good one, I play the Ledges a fair amount, I like the layout and some short-ish holes and birdie chances. Hidden gem in the area for me is Chicopee CC, always in nice shape.

The ranch is good. We played their Sunday deal a few times, I think 40$ after 4 or something. Ledges is on my list to get to as well.

I played Gillette Ridge, Blackledge and Tumble Brook CC this summer, and would recommend all three. Blackledge seemed a little bit under the radar, but was a fun course.

I can’t speak to many of the courses in the area, as I moved away before I really got the golf bug.

The back 9 at TPC river highlands is as good as it gets.

I can attest to that. I had the opportunity to play there last season and that back nine was one of my favorite nine hole stretches I've ever played. While the 15-17 stretch along the water will get most of the attention, the downhill par 3 11th and the par 5 13th were also two of my favorite holes and the 18th is a great finishing hole.

When I lived in Connecticut (roughly 10 years ago) I liked playing glastonbury hills country club. I didnt play as m.j much golf as I do now though so never really ventured out much.

Personally I've played blackledge a ton. Portland Golf Course over the last few years has been in excellent condition. I haven't played a ton of the better courses in the state, but Wethersfield CC and TPC I've enjoyed a bunch

Yes, I should have included Timberlin in my post also. Played there my first time this past summer. Was a great time, nice course. Was pretty wide open for a hack like myself

I don't get to CT very often, but I really like Connecticut National: you need every club in your bag, the greens are challenging, and it has a unique collection of holes.

If you can find a way on, Bulls Bridge is an absolutely incredible track. One of my all time favorite courses. Other courses I've played up there are Wintonberry, Connecticut national, and Wethersfield, all nice

I lived in CT for 5 years and just recently moved back to Kansas. Below are some of my favorites.

Was a member at Racebrook and it was always in amazing shape with a fun layout. Greens are lightening fast.Great River is a brutal test from the tips!Lake of Isles is always in perfect condition.Fox Hopyard is a really good track.I was fortunate enough to play most of the country clubs in the southern portion and they are amazing....Stanwich CC, Woodway CC, Darien CC, and Fairfield CC are a few on the top of my list if you can get on them.And all the NY courses that are just a short 30 min drive. Really great place to play golf, although the season is on the shorter side.

Yale is generally considered the best design. The condition varies there. Fun, quirky at times, course. If you are a CB/Raynor fan, a must. Technically not public, but you shouldn't have too much issue getting on.

Norfolk Country Club, a little old Tillinghast 9-hole design that is super quirky but really fun to play. Have a lot of great memories from there.
