Glove Wear

Hi folks,

I know there’s a lot of talk on this but I’m still at a loss. I keep having left wear patterns on my glove. I don’t think it’s too much in the palm. I’ve been to lesson and my Pro can’t figure it out. He thinks my grip is sound and I even put the little dots to make sure it’s not in the palm. I’m also very diligent about not gripping on the butt end. Is there anything else? Can it be glove size or grip size too big or small even though I use the footjoy fitting glove measurements. I wear cadet medium and play standard size tour velvet. What else am I missing?

To me it looks like you might be re-gripping your club during the swing and the butt end of the club is sliding up against the heel of your left hand. At contact the added pressure is resulting in abnormal wear pattern and over time the glove wears out. If you look at the surface just above the torn area, it looks worn down which could be from the friction when the grip rotates in your hand. Hope you get it sorted out.

Interesting and thank you for the feedback. Anything in a swing that would cause a regripping? Could it be a swing plane issue? Swing length? Other I don't feel it, but as we all know, feel may not be real?

@Pomps wish I had a good answer about re-gripping, since I suffer from bouts with it myself. For me it seemed to be more related to my grip and arthritis issue. If I don't set my hands properly in my setup, on my backswing, I find myself subconsciously trying to change the grip so I "think" I can hold onto the club better. Reality is that I'm not going to lose control of the club but reality never seems to controls over this crazy golfer's mind :-)

I typically re-grip when I want to swing at max effort. It’s a huge problem, but what I have found is that focusing on the proper pressure points in the grip typically fixes it. One of those dumb things that should be automatic, but I have to be mindful of sometimes.

Do set up with the left thumb pointing directly down the middle of the shaft?

Is the "V" in your left hand pointing at our chin or the right shoulder?

I have wear in the same spot. I chalk it up to not over gripping and allowing the but end of the shaft to move bottom to up in the backswing ..

When you grab the club, do you do it with your left hand at your side or in front of you? I use the Tom Kite method of letting my left arm hang at my side and dropping the club with my right hand into the fingers of my left hand. It automatically sets the sets the "v" perfectly. It keeps from gripping the club "too neutral" and stops any shift when I bring the club around and put my right hand on the grip. I think your left hand is shifting.

Can you hold a tee "in the "v" of your left hand for the whole golf swing or does the tee fall out when you swing?
