Scratched or Not Scratched ?

Yeah you can see it in the second photo. It doesn't look to be anything other that very light playing marks on the insert though. If I was the buyer it would be NBD — unless I was under the impression that the putter was supposed to be brand new and unused. But if the buyer knew it had been used, it think it's a tough complaint.

I know this is not part of the OP's question/concern – but getting rid of those scratches is super easy. Just mask off the black parts of the face with blue painter's tape, then use a new green scotch pad to buff the insert.

Well the pics are 2 completely different angles and under different conditions. Depending on lighting and goodness knows what else every pic can show something different. This doesn’t prove anything.

It could have been scratched and you didn’t know it or it could have been pristine. Who knows. But nothing posted so far is definitive.

Yeah, you are correct, I was going to say the exact same thing. You need to have the exact same angle photo to show it wasn’t scratched, because a head on photo like your original will never show that kind of scratching, it will wash out in the photo. I think I might see something down the middle in your original photo like the scratch marks, or at least something in the middle, but Only that angle will really tell you . However, it could have been the seller trying to polish it when it arrived (although I’m not sure why someone would do that exactly)

that sucks either way, but photos can lie if you aren’t careful. Many times it’s the other way around and photos can make clubs look worse than they are.

There's no way that anyone here can give you an informed opinion without seeing the putter in person. Photos, displayed on a phone or monitor, taken at different times in different locations, are totally unreliable in this case. You guys are going to have to hash it out like big boys. If I were in this situation, there's only two options I'd consider - tell the buyer that you just don't see it, he can either keep it as-is or send it back for a full refund after verifying that it's in the same condition as it was when it went out and the serial number matches. I might even be fake polite about it. Too much headache to climb up this hill and start a battle.

The other option is, this isn’t going to be resolved pleasantly and the seller is going to make a claim to Paypal for buyer fraud, returning an item in different condition. Or the opposite, the buyer is going to make a fraud claim against the seller.

I’m not saying that’s the right thing to do, but I think it’s a likely outcome.

I guess I could have reworded my advice to “do not give partial refunds”. Any dispute will be accepting of “return for full refund” as a resolution. He’ll have to pay for return shipping likely, though. If the buyer returns the item in different condition, OP should be able to report it to PayPal and prove it with photos. PayPal isn’t eBay, they don’t automatically side with one party over the other. The seller pays the fees to PayPal, they have no reason to automatically side with the buyer.

Two options - return for full refund or keep as-is. Those will be PayPal’s options as well in a claim the buyer can file.

Honestly, at this point, if he fears the buyer is trying to pull a quick one by returning a damaged or different club, then he should name the buyer and invite him to this thread immediately.

is that not just from sliding it into the headcover? that insert is going to get tarnished over time anyways. it doesn't look like heavy scratches. polish it with some toothpaste.

the listing says it was used, that thing looks pretty good for being used. buyer got a solid deal given those putters aren't doing well on the secondary market.

As others have said its hard to tell from the pictures but the scratches are on the face of a used putter and don't appear to be particularly deep or significant. Either keep it as is or return it via the Paypal process for a full refund. Any request for a partial refund I would consider the matter as nothing more than tryiing to extort a cheaper price from the seller.

I have a T22 that I have been gaming since it's release, the copper is very smooth and just normal use (wiping the face clean, putting it back into the cover) makes it look "scratched" like this, I noticed it after only a week or two of use. 100% superficial and could easily be over looked if you aren't looking at the face at various angles. If they tried to polish/clean the face at all they could have easily done this.

My guess is that those scratches may actually appear apparent from the precise angle that the buyer used for the pictures, but disappear when viewed in other directions. Maybe they have buyer's remorse?

My guess is the buyer tried to polish it like a shiny new penny and scratched it himself. He probably taped off the black face and went at it with something just a tad too abrasive.

From the original photo it looks to me like the scratches were already there from you gaming it prior to selling. You may not have noticed if you did not look at it from all angles but it definitely looks like its already there to me. But to follow that up they bought a used putter and as many have said those are very superficial.

It looks like the putter cover Velcro scratched the face. The headcovers on the T22 are super tight. Just normal wear for these in my opinion
