cleveland cbx 2 wedges

Recommended Posts

I switched from CBX to CBX 2 at around mid October. I think overall they are very similar. However, to me

The CBX 2 felt "softer" than the CBX. I think it is mainly due to the new insert from this year's model. The CBX 2 is more forgiving then the CBX. Especially the toe hits, I barely loss any distance of those.

I had CBX in 50, 54 and 58 and liked them very much. This year, I switched to CBX2 in 50 and 54 and RTX4 in 58. For some reason, I am not getting along the CBX2. Can’t figure it out... I wish I didn’t sell the CBX.

I am tossed between these and the jpx 919 wedges. I have the jpx hm irons so might try to match. I did hit the cbx2 today and was impressed so far

I tested 5 wedges today from the Cleveland cbx2, Taylormade hi-toe, TaylorMade milled grind, new volley, and then the new Mizuno t20. I’ve been playing a Cleveland cg10 for 12 years. The Mizuno t20 felt amazing. The feel was perfect and I could pin point every chip where it was going to stop. The cbx2 didn’t feel good at all. It was just clunky in my opinion.

I have the JPX-919 hm irons with the JPX-919 wedges and I switched to the CBX 2 wedges and not going back. They are better in every way.

Cbx 2 are that much better. Going back tomorrow to mess around n I’ll place my order. My irons are 2 degrees flat so I’ll get them to much or even go touch flatter

I have a CBX2 in 50* and CBX in 54*. Although they are different clubs (GW vs SW) I can't tell a difference in performance between them. Full shots, pitching and chipping they feel the same and spin the same. The only noticeable difference is that grass/dirt can build up in the cavity of the CBX. CBX2 does not have this problem due to the deep section of the cavity being filled in by a gelback insert.

One thing to keep in mind that the CBX and CBX 2 are designed towards players that don't hit the middle of the club most of the time so the key feature is not feel or look (even though from the top it looks as good as the RTX) but forgiveness especially toe hits. And the wide sole is gonna help the diggers more than the sweepers. Those who have very shallow swing should get fit, CBX or CBX 2 might not be the best option since it only has one grind per loft.

Same shaft, same length. After I added RTX4 58, i found RTX4 works better for my swing. I added RTX4 54 and now in process of adding RTX4 50.

  • 2 weeks later...

i really wanted to go with a cbx2 in the 50..but don't want to spend the extra to reshaft. really think they messed up using a lightweight shaft as stock for wedges. even dg120 would be better than the current.

I cannot speak on the CBX-2 but I recently picked up two CBX RTX wedges in 54* and 58* both with Cleveland’s wedge flex graphite. The shaft is on the heavier/stiffer side but the clubs are as point and shoot as I’ve played... I feel guilty because I got them for such a value. If the CBX-2 wedges are an similar or better than you’re in for a treat!
