What's your goals for 2020?

I was fitted for a custom driver today and have 4 lessons set up starting Monday. My goal for 2020 is to really put my distance to use in the hopes of scoring lower. I've strayed from the drive due to the lack of control, but the distance is something I can no longer ignore. The group of guys I play with usually are hitting 225 and I can get it out there 270, 240 with no problem even on poor hits.

I'm a 23 HDCP right now. I have 2 goals this up coming golf season.

Make my driver a weapon. Expectations 240 on average off the tee relatively straight.

1 Birdie a round

Enabling this will be less ad hoc practice and more structured practice with a coach. Primarily focusing on the driver.

One other add to this..... I went ahead and had all my Mizuno irons shafted with graphite shafts that fit my game. 46 - 60.

Knocking these last 5 strokes off my handicap to get to scratch is the biggest goal. Really comes down to a bit better recovery play and keeping my focus. I can be too quick to give up on a round if a bad hole or two happens and I need to just not let it get into my head so much.

I'd also like to start playing competitively again.

My goal for 2020 is consistency! I shot my best scores ever this summer with a couple 73's but my last 2 rounds have been 84, and my highest all season of 95. I've developed a unplayable hook and have no idea where the ball is going right now. So discouraging and disappointing to end the season like this! I understand there are ups and downs in the game, but a 20 stroke despairity from best to worst is unacceptable! I hate this game!

I play this track in Jacksonville called Julington Creek. Prior to moving here, St Louis to Jacksonville, I was a 19. Then Julington was introduced and my handicap blew up to a 23.3 lol. Here is the course..... Jacksonville Golf - Julington Creek Golf Club

It's my home track now so I try to play it mostly, although living near Ponte Vedra I have played The Valley course (sister course to the Players Stadium).

Get my health in shape. I want to develop a consistent iron swing this year. The rest of my game is good, but irons and wedges need work as always. So 2020 will be an iron swing rebuild year for me. I finally found the irons I have been looking for, so now it is just the swing. Wedges are tough, but seeing great results with the 54* Glide right now. Fixed the putter with a slight grip change, so it is good now. Starting to develop a better course management, and that makes the game so much more fun. Here's to 2020 and better golf!!

To get from a high 8 cap to below 5.

Improve my sucky performance with the 4, 5, and 6 iron. I SUCK with those three clubs. I can hit the heck out of a 5 wood, but put a 4 iron in my hand and watch the ugly!Use the 3 wood off the tee more for better position.Improve physical fitness for a better turn.Learn to hit a 70 yard shot that is lower with spin. This is the one distance inside 120 that still causes problems for me.

Get to single digits, currently a 13.6.

I played a lot more tournament golf this year and learned the difference between 'fun' golf and 'competitive' golf. My handicap shot up for awhile as I adjusted to playing with pressure and everything 100 by the rules. (my old group would give putts inside the leather, were generous with bad lies, a 'breakfast ball' if you had a bad tee shot on #1, etc)

My goal is to get it to single digits and break 80. (low is 81). Looking at my stats, it's going to be a lot of short game and putting work over the winter. I'm decent (for my handicap) from tee to green. But I'm an terrible chipper and my putting is atrocious.

I got a case of the yips a couple of years ago that rears it's head from time to time and has paralyzed my short game. Several 3 putts a round common. A 4 putt isn't unusual. Heck, first round a tournament - I 5- putt from 20 feet. 5-putt. I've tried left hand low, right hand low, claw grip, rocking the shoulders, using the hands. Pacing putts, using the force. Putting on a line, putting to a spot. On the practice green I can be Brad Faxon....just gently rolling putts a perfect distance all day. In competitive rounds I often decelerate out of fear of the yips.

This put a lot of pressure on my chipping. I went from trying to chip it in a 3 foot circle to worrying about the upcoming putt. Then I lost all my feel. I started blading chips and messing with that technique. Hitting with bounce, putt-chipping, Clement's 'gravity' chipping, bump and run. I have no confidence to chip it close anymore...which puts pressure on my shaky putting game.

So my goal this winter is to find one chipping method and putting method and stick with it. In addition to practicing it, I have to play rounds with it and find a way to take it to the course. I feel if I was just a decent putter and had a competent short game I truly feel I could knock 3-4 strokes off my handicap.

This year, instead of chasing a handicap, im going to chase on more fundamental parts of my game being solid.

So for 2020 my goal is to consistently work on my 100 yard - putting game over anything else. 75 [ercent of my practice time.

The other 25% will be focusing on balance and "ball first" striking.

Short game has been a disaster since picking the game back up last year. Used to be my strength, now I can't seem to find any sort of chipping stroke/philosophy that works for me. Part of that's breaking back into the game, needing practice, getting used to new clubs, but I'd probably shave 10 shots off my score if I could just hit onto a green the first time I swing.

Know the feeling. Finally decided to go hack mode and put the ball trail big toe and take 3/4 swings while delofting the club. Since then, my 46 wedge goes ~120, 56 ~90 and 60 degree ~ 60 yards.

I have an inside out swing path, I'm hitting small draws with the wedges.

Repairing my damaged swing. From previously hitting all solid, straight shots to now hitting it god knows where, I'd like to get my form back and make my swing more usable for the long haul. I've been working with a pro to repair my ugly swing and improve distance and solid hits but at the same time put less stress on my back and knees and unfortunately it's resulted in a year in hell (golf wise at least). Working hard to repair the swing and get more consistency. Wish golf was easier.
