Best way as a single to travel and play Streamsong?

Recommended Posts

Thinking of taking a trip in Jan or Feb down to the Orlando area to play Streamsong. Is it better to stay at the resort or find your own hotel & food, etc. I see the rate for public guest is $30 more than resort guests, but I'm sure I could make the difference up at a cheaper hotel 15- or 20 minutes away. Ideally, I'm looking to go down on a Friday night after work, see some family and get a lesson from a coach I'm in contact with in Orlando, then play 36 Sunday and return late Sunday night or very early Monday morning.

I've been there twice as a single in February. I stayed at the Best Western in Bowling Green each time. It's a short drive to the course, and well worth the savings.

Staying just outside will definitely save you cash before as mentioned above.

Not sure if you'd get 36 one day in Jan-Feb it is prime time and they might hold those early morning tee times for on property guests. Also you can only book 7 days in advance as a non guest. Just playing around the website there is a 730 then like an 840 and then 825 on a given weekend.

I was able to book my tee times more than 7 days in advance. Give them a call and see what the early Sunday tee sheet looks like. If they have a threesome booked in the early morning they might pencil you into the remaining slot.

I had no problem playing 36 on my first visit.

I've done similar trips as @Argonne69. I was there last Feb and played as a single and stayed outside of the resort. I had no issue playing 2 rounds in 1 day and even knocked it around their little practice holes after my 2nd round. I just called and asked for a tee time, probably a month out and was able to book it.

Ok so after looking at the trip expenses and the cost of the half day playing lessons I'm going to in Orlando, I have to pick one of the Streamsong courses to play and not both. My coach says I can play Orange County National for $60 so if I really want to play another 18, I could go there.

I've read reviews and seen the layouts of all 3.... but from you all who have played there, which did you like best and why? Right now I'm leaning toward Blue, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

We do Christmas in Tampa each year and I gift myself a 36 hole day away from the in-laws at Streamsong each year, playing as a single. Generally they allow non-guest bookings 45 days out from the date of play. I have quite literally played on the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere twice and had no problem getting in 36. The drive in and back to Tampa makes it a bit of a long day for me, but certainly doable. Have a blast.

I've only done the Blue and the Red so far. Will be playing Black and Blue this year.

Generally, I have preferred the Blue, but I know I tend to enjoy Doak courses. To me, Red feels similar to C& C's work at Sand Valley, which isnt a bad thing at all, I just think Blue stands out as more unique to me. Can't go wrong with either, but hard to pick just one. Hope to be able to report positive things about Black soon as well!

Trip was a success! I played Sunday at 8:45am and I stayed in a hotel in Lakeland. It was an eassyyy 40 minute drive in. Beware: There is NO cell coverage out there, atleast for me on ATT&T. Download your reverse directions ahead of time!! I cant stress this enough as I made the mistake of taking a left instead of a right when getting out of the property and ended up driving 20 minutes in the wrong direction. Luckily I hit a small patch of service and at least got a GPS fix and turned myself around before I really got lost.

As far as the course and all that - This has been the best golf experience of my life so far. The workers/crew take such good care of you and it was totally seamless and organized much better than I thought. They drive you to and from the range where you can hit ProV1's to your hearts desire. There's a chipping range right next to it, and then a putting green by the bag drop off area. When I played yesterday the greens were running 13-14 and extremely true. Down hill putts were a nightmare but the ball never wobbled or went off line.

My favorite holes were 1, 6 and 18. I actually drove the green from the black tees on #1 which is I think 320 on paper but plays a little down hill relative to the green. I suggest you don't hit driver if you think it can go longer than 280. Course is wide open and driving the ball isn't too hard. Approaches need to be really precise or it's really tough to get the ball close and get up and down. The views are really great and pictures I have don't do it justice.

I didn't get a chance to replay Red because I was too tired and was losing focus. Didn't get much sleep this weekend and didn't think it was worth playing any more. Just another reason to go back ;)

Lemme know if you guys have questions! Highly recommend, 10/10 experience and worth every dollar.
