Fluted Shafts

There was a thread recently which explored fluted shafts in Acushnet Bullseye putters and I'm blessed if I can find it. The question was 'Why', if I recall correctly Stu had an interest.

I found the answer in an article about aluminium shafts in Golfdom Feb 1968. (remember Golfdom?)

Straying from a reference to torque in aluminium shafts, the Wilson representative in the discussion said definitively that they introduced fluted shafts in the X31 to increase torque and reduce 'toe flutter'. Same in putters I imagine.

Noted your fluted shaft commentary earlier as it related to the Bullseye question. How much torque generated by a putter is subject to debate. Perhaps a case of any being too much. No denying that at one time, fluted shafts were predominate.

Golfdom. While searching the internets for info on golf stuff, keep bumping into Golfdom articles. And often sourced from the digitally archived MSU library. Michigan State University being a leading turfgrass research university here in the states. NTM, my alma mater. An example being this '66 Buyer's Guide I ran into the other day. Mildly interesting for us classic clubs aficionados. Also, this archived list of mid to late 60's titles by month and year. I've discovered articles dating back into the 40's (Ex.
