Is Golf the most hypocritical game?

Is golf the most hypocritical game in the world? "Play it as it lie" says Brandel Chamblee. While I am a fan of Brandel and I respect his

his opinion but his outrage either real or fake goes way over the top. He and others must know that that average golfer can't break 90

and that most cheat to achieve the score they record. I've played with a lot of golfers and a lot of them use the famous foot wedge

when behind a tree, they give themselves a perfect lie, they give themselves a 4 when they score a 5, they constantly receive mulligans,

they take lateral drops when it don't apply, they move their ball out of divots....etc..Just to name a few.

Brandel said that Tiger "made a deal with the devil"....Really Brandel!?!

Let he who has never done any of the above, cast the first outrage.

By the way all touring pros lay the grass down behind the ball, it starts on the tee if you notice. There's a reason why they do that.

He recieved his two shot penalty, the field was protected...time to move on to the next outrage.

Golf itself is not hypocritical. Nothing happens until a shot is hit and a score is recorded. The hypocritical part arrives with human intervention and the actions encompassing an individual scoring methodology and subsequent rationalization of that aforementioned methodology. As shown below, this methodology was best manifested with the "GC Rationale" developed in the mid-90s.

As I've told many people.....never use an athlete as a role model....you'll be disappointed every time.  These guys are terribly flawed...use this as a teachable moment for your kids and grandkids.

On a side note:   Have you ever played with that guy who hits his golf ball 30 yards out of bound and mysteriously finds it on the edge of the rough....LOL!

Why do people start threads and then use things they know nothing about to support what they say...….A player can lay any grass he wants down behind his ball on the tee.....He can use his club to create a tee if he wants...….So tired of this argument that everyone cheats...….It is just stupid and ignorant.

The rules are not hypocritical, the golfer who uses and abuses the rules are. We can’t mix the two. In Reed’s case, whether he had intention or not, the rule of improving his lie was broken, so he was given a 2 shot penalty. We can’t as a public viewer act as if he is the first person to break a rule. I agree with Rory where Patrick Reed does have a cult following of people who are waiting for him to screw up so they can pile it on. Reed now deals with the ridicule and he can choose how he comes out of it. He will learn from it for sure. Now from an Amateur standpoint, you can see hypocrisy day in and day out and it will continue. I remember playing with some buddies and one person would often wait for somebody to give him his two foot putt. Well that two putt would become 2 1/2 foot. The thing about things that are black and white that we make into grey is that the time will come when my buddy plays in a men’s club tourney and he can’t make anything inside 3 feet. I too am guilty of taking a gimme putt as do most golfers in a non competitive level. Now when that rolls over into competitive rounds, I say you the golfer is the only one who can answer that question of hypocrisy.

Athletes are human beings which means they have flaws. Nobody is perfect! How person a person responds to a error they make is vital to how people will perceive them. In Reed’s situation this past week he responded with excuses about camera angle and not knowing he moved sand since he was looking down. The excuses he offered hurt him. How different things could have been had he just came out and said he saw the video and without question he moved sand and he accepts the 2 shot penalty.

Golf is a game of integrity. You call penalties on yourself. If a person wants to ignore the rules in casual rounds that’s on them.

This thread is about all the "holier than thou" out there who in all probability should be the last to  do so.….and chances are KARMA will catch up with them next week.

Fact is....you can't remind people of the to much.

I have to remind people that the guy didn't cheat. At the worst he tried and got caught and at best he really didn't see the sand fly.....

but I digress....lets talk about cheaters calling other people cheaters....

Lol. I love it. Yes Op. it’s simultaneously the best and worst game ever invented.

Yes. I’ve played with a lot of folks who cheat to one degree or another. Mulligans , root rule , lift and rake in a trap , rolling it on a fairway. Rolling in the rough , gimmes , balls magically found in spots that they couldn’t be in , claiming a found ball as your own , the guy who marks in front of the ball then replaces ball in front of Mark , and on and on. I counted one round and saw 5 of those from one player , and he’s very calculated about it. Thinks nobody knows.

And yes the old adage “ play it as it lies “ is now a lie. Moving loose impediments in a hazard ( traps included ) plus grounding your club in a hazard ( not traps ) saw to that.

No, What's stupid and ignorant is that you think that I said that pressing the grass down on the tee was a breach of the rules. I simply pointed out the fact that it starts there.

What is stupid and ignorant is showing the board that you are unable to comprehend what a person is saying, yet you comment anyway.

Laura Davies of the LPGA makes a grass tee quite often....some use sand....

I've been around the game a pretty long time now. I compete in state & county events, club championships, have caddied for my daughter in USGA and other national championships, and have played in countless money matches. In literally thousands of rounds, it's been very rare occasion that I've witnessed intentional cheating.

By far and away, the majority of the rules breaches I witness, intentionaI and otherwise, are in casual rounds where absolutely nothing is on the line. I've also seen guys play dumb when I suspect they know better. Truth is, with nothing on the line, I dont give a rat's azz what you claim to have scored in the end. As far as I'm concerned, go ahead and post the lowest score possible as you're only disadvantaging yourself by hurting your own handicap for future games.

Another observation is that those who complain most about their opponents "cheating," dont play for anything anyway. I don't really get why bragging rights are so important, but I see that it really bothers them when their buddy suspiciously finds that ball that appeared to be OB...lol! ?

Guys who cheat in legitimate events and/or money matches typically don't last long. Their reps get destroyed and the can't find a game.

Yes I play with Greame too

My favourite was in a tournament , me and my step dad are up so much we don't really care about some of the stuff these guys are doing mostly hitting OB not declaring the provisional and then miraculously finding the original ball. We are still winning but when my step dad is pointing a line and accidentally hits the green just a touch they want to pull out the rule book ..umm can we talk about your provisionals ?
