Titleist T100/U500 combo set

MrShield

Recommended Posts

Just by the naming convention I bought a combo set of T200 4-5 and 6-P T100. Never really liked it. Loved T100, but if I just ignored the horrible visible tech of T200 it still wasn’t a good fit to combo with T100. Way too much offset and the gapping required odd bending. So I sold it

At Black Friday they had this crazy good price on all Titleist clubs so I just bought a new of the shelf set of T100 5-P. This time I bought U500 2-4 instead (same steel shaft in 2-3 as in T100 set and graphite in 2-iron) to combo. Couldn’t be happier, makes so much more sense to combo instead of T200. Good looking club, nice at address, less offset and the lofts actually makes sense.

Anyone else have combo with U500? Or any other combo you think was a Homerun?

Anyone have compared T100 4-iron to U500 4 iron? I’m still debating with myself if I should buy a T100 4 iron, really like T100.

Are you right handed or left handed? I have an extra lefty T100 4 iron in the wrapper still. I think the 4/5 irons performs really well in T100. I was very surprised.

I have not hit the U500 in anything but a 2 iron so I am also curious to see how the two compare.

Have not hit the t100 4 iron but I tested the u500 4 iron and I came away very impressed. Thinking heavily about putting one in the bag. The shape is wonderful!

Did you try U500 with same shaft before settling on T-MB?

I played T-MB 2-4 with success last year, and now I have 2-4 U500. The local golf shop have a very nice discount on T-MB 2-4 with same AMT White shaft as I have in T100. I like the thinner sole of T-MB vs U500. At the same time I considering buying 3 and 4 of T100...decisions...decisions :-)

I already had the T-MB, but I did try the U500 when I got fitted for my T100s. I did really like the U500 and it went a little further than my T-MB, but I much prefer the look and turf interaction of the T-MB, plus the distance wasn’t THAT much more with the U500, so I decided to stick with my T-MB. If I didn’t already have the T-MB then I would definitely have the U500 in my bag.

Reviving this thread a little, as I am stuck in the same debate now. Have a set of T100-S but only bought (5-PW) on purpose. Can't get over the offset of my buddies T200 4 iron, but didnt get results in my test out the U500 since they only had the HZRDUS shaft glued in. I loved the feel of impact with the U500, and couldn't get comfy with the U510 at all... so wide. Prior to T100S I was gaming P790's and could handle the 4 iron most of time, easily so off a tee on a par 3. They are backup set (for now) due to the short irons not being easy to score with still. No issue with the 5 iron in either set. Leaves me wondering what to do with the 4 iron (21*) slot. Next club after my 4 iron is a 19* TS2 hybrid. Honestly contemplating just sticking the P790 4 iron in at the top of my iron set and rolling. Modus 105's in the T100's and DG105 in the TM's so weight is a good match I guess. I also have an old TMB 4 and 5 iron, but just have always felt meh bout them. They are 716 series and just don't have the same pop it feels like as todays stuff.

Now that my rambling is over... how do people rank forgiveness of these options, mostly in terms of getting the ball airport. I know these aren't hybrids so I don;t expect a toe shot to fly 90%. Are the U500 hot and pretty easy to lift, or are the the same as TMB? Could it be the case the T100S 4 iron is the answer, as the 5 and 6 feel like they have some pop to them. Some years ago I got the combo set bug in my brain and just couldn't get over playing PW-4 iron... not sure if that is grounded in any fact, other than a 4 lofted club just has more room for error period. Looking for any feedback from people who have played these options with their preferred shaft, since I have no means to demo a 4 U500 with any custom shafts. Thanks! Been flip flopping between the P790 and T100S and driving myself crazy. If the T200 just looked more like the TM's I would have been done a year ago.

I was playing T-MB 5-7, AP2 8-PW with a U500 4i and it was very nice gapping.

I felt the U500 was just a tad better on my toe miss than the T-MB 4i I was bagging in my combo set before the change.

I had DGAMT x100 in the irons and a Modus 120x in the U500.

I am now trying out a set of Mizzy HMBs, but would go back to my titleist set if they don't beat them definitively.

The u500 feels amazing when centered, but less than fun when hitting it on the toe/thin. I hit my T100 4i great, and am thinking of getting a 3 just because the long irons are so easy and forgiving to hit.

For what it's worth, I recently lost my u500 in 3i and i don't miss it. It might have been the HZRDUS Smoke shaft in it, but I am enjoying my Mizuno 3i with a Tour AD DI shaft much more.

I’ve got the T100 4-PW and a T-MB 3 iron. I find that the T-MB has slightly more offset than T100 but nothing like T200. I’m really enjoying the T100 long irons and the T-MB to round out my irons.

I currently game T200 4-5 1 deg weak and T100 6-PW 1 deg strong. Not a fan of T200 really. Easy to hit but just don't like the look and the gapping didn't work out well. Once Titleist opens up I'm going to be ordering a T100 5 iron and U500 4 iron.

How does the T-MB 4 iron compare to the U500 4 iron? I used to game the T-MB 4 iron with AP2 716/718 and it was a great 4 iron but I did seem to launch it higher than I would have liked.

I have been playing the T100 in 4-PW (Project X 6.0), with the U500 in 3i (Smoke Black). Find the 3i extremely easy to hit both off the deck and from a tee - as easy if not easier than the 4i and I don't have any trouble with the T100 long irons. I long played J40 4-PW with a 21 degree Titleist hybrid and much prefer the u500 to the hybrid. Only issue is my miss with the u500 is right where for years I have played a draw/missed left only - any one else have this issue?

I have the T100 4 iron in my bag and it is not going anywhere. I would accept that I am in the luckyish position where I have a relatively high ball flight and I have never really had any trouble in getting traditional long irons off the deck. When I have a 3 iron in the bag it is a 712U which I love and have done for some time now. Similarly to the OP the issue that I have going form 4 iron to 3 is in the offset. The offset on the 3 iron compared to the 4 and everything else looks massive. Hard to make the adjustment visually anyway.

T-MB is about smaller sole width and is a touch harder to hit than the U500. I have both in 4-iron.

The T-MB also launches a touch higher and spins a bit more, which makes them carry about the same, but the U500 rolls out a bit more (and is a touch longer but only by 1-3y)

Just recently added U500 4 iron to go with my TMB 5 and AP2’s 6-9 all x100 shafts. I ordered it without ever trying. First three shots off the tees were bombs. I was wildly surprised how easy to hit. I’ve contemplated getting a 3 iron but no need now. Thinking about replacing my TMB 5 iron and getting the T100 seeing I can’t order custom AP2’s.

I wanted to get some feedback on my proposed idea. I currently play 4-9 in the 620 CBs. What I am thinking of doing is go U500 4 iron, T100 5 and 6 (1 degree weak for 6 iron to match the CBs), and 7-9 in CBs. I was able to get out in the simulator with a buddy's T100 5 and 6 and here's the data. Aside from the 3H and 3W essentially overlapping, are there any glaring flaws in my plan? Thanks very much in advance!!

There is a pretty big yardage gap between your 5 and 6 but overall it makes a lot of sense. At the end of the day you need to hit yardages consistently, so wha ever clubs help you do that go with it. I would recommend watching Mark Crossfields latest WITB on YouTube. He has done something very similar with his clubs. Ignoring a traditional set or even a combo set and using clubs that hit his distances. I am most likely gonna do something similar. Nice job!

Another thing I am planning on doing is change up my shaft in the 5 and 6 iron T100. Im thinking maybe 7-P CB Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 and 5-6 T100 Project X 5.5 to make it easier to get the ball in the air. Its still a work in progress though haha I have never played two different types of steel shaft and flexes in my bag at the same time so not really sure if I should just get S300 on the long irons or change everything to Project X and make it 6.0 on the scoring irons and 5.5 on the long. We'll just have to see!

I have PX 6.0 120g in all the irons, the S400 will be 134g that might take a bit of getting used to. Might work because it would make the shorter irons more controllable though. My biggest takeaway is that PX feels different it has a smoother less snappy feel through the ball than my previous set with S300 shafts (130g).

That smooth feel (some say boardy) has been my biggest hurdle and part of me wonders if LZ might have given me the same 'pop' that the S300's used to give me. Although when I get my timing right I can tell I nail them so I'll probably just focus on getting my swing more consistent, rather than keep chasing what might be.

I definitely get where your coming from man! I hit the project x 6.0 and 5.5 in a T100 7 iron head and I couldn't for the life of me make solid contact in the 6.0. Switched over to 5.5 and it was like everything clicked! Ive been playing with the Tour Issue shafts for awhile now and I have gotten used to how heavy and stiff they are but they are just punishing up around the longer irons especially for the CBs haha. Its looking like ill have to either have two different shafts, or trade out my DG TI for Project X 5.5. What do you think about the Nippon Modus NS Pro 120 S? I used to play that on my i210s before I got the CBs?

I kind of wish that I would have tried the Modus 120 shafts, but he focused in on the PX 6.0 almost immediately for me because I hit a high ball with lots of spin to begin with. I wish I would have asked about them but I was trying to keep my emotions out of the fit and let him concentrate. I had a hard time with the 5.5's that missing 5 grams didn't feel right at all and I was all over the place trying to find my tempo.

I did try the C-Taper and the feel was 'almost' the same as the PX but the balance was different; He explained that even though they are the same 120g the C-Taper has more weight in the butt section and less in the tip so I was probably losing the feeling of the clubhead in the downswing.

LZ is a completely different feel than PX in my experience. LZ feels much smoother more like the original KBS Tours. Easier to hit high with more spin which it doesn't seem like you're looking for.
