Are X100's too stiff?

Hey all,

Looking for new iron shafts. I've gamed rifle 6.0 hardstepped once for about 5 years on my titleist ZB's and they've performed pretty well. Would like to get a new set to compliment my AMT white S400 wedges I LOVE! Looking at Dynamic Gold X100. Was only able to hit an X100 on a Titleist 7 iron at a fitting and got great results but wasn't sold completely as I'd like to try a whole set. Stock 7 iron is about 170-179 and driver SS is about 115 on average. Caveat is that I do like to work the ball around a bit and take some off with irons. I love a great feeling shaft like the tour ad bb in my driver and looking for a responsive type in the irons. Tried PX LZ and those perform great on full swings but really struggle working the ball. Are X100's really that stiff?

Your swing speed and distances are similar to mine, fwiw I use S300 in my DGs but we're probably at tweener levels at our SS

If you use hardstepped 6.0s those are already fairly stiff

You'd probably be OK. I've used X100 too when my SS was similar

The short answer is no, they are not that stiff. They are a lighter weight though. I play x100 (the SL version) with a driver SS of 106-108 and I like them a lot.

Give the DG AMT WHITE, x100 a try.

No, the x100 isnt all that stiff. Worst case x100 amt as suggested

Nah they aren't that stiff, I played them when I swung sub 105mph and they weren't bad even at that speed.

They fit more people than would seem if just going by on-paper descriptions. If you can game s300's comfortably, it would be an interesting experiment to try the x1's.

You are fine. Not bad at all. Just need to be in golf shape and know what you’re doing. Late in the round the long irons will remind you what you’re swinging. If you’re a good weekend golfer and think you’re gonna stripe a 3i on the 17th 115% like you did on the 3td you might consider that hybrid or 5w.

If you like to tale some off and work the ball, and looking for a great feeling and responsive shaft - get Nippons.

Absolutely not. I can ramp up but often hit 3/4 knock downs because my ball flight is quite high. My full swing 7 iron is around 92-93mph. Even in the dead of winter and bundled up I do not find X100 hard to load. One thing to consider is that they spin a lot. Nice for working the ball but if your technique for wind play isn't great they can spin up a bit. I love the feel. Had KBS $ Taper 130x in my first set of MP20 and could not time the things. X100 is night and day better. You have plenty of speed.

One thing I will say is I agree with the above. If you at ALL struggle with flighting your long irons high enough, try the AMT version - it's fantastic.

I second both the comments that X100s are not nearly as "beastly" as they can be made out to be. They are far friendlier than something like the stiffer Project X Rifles and KBS C-Tapers. I also think the AMT shafts would be a great idea. The primary difference is between your Rifle 6.0 shafts (i'm assuming these are original Rifles and not Project X Rifles?) and something like the X100 is the mid stiffness, with the Rifles being softer. Going with a standard X100 set would probably be fine but the long iron shafts are going to be heavier and stiffer in the mid section which may prove a little tough coming from the Rifles. The AMT X100 set becomes a lot more "Rifle like" in the longer irons with a softer mid section and less weight. This will also feel a bit different as the AMT are ascending weight (short irons are heavier) and the original Rifles are descending weight (short irons lighter) but overall this makes the perceived heft more consistent across the clubs if they are swing weight matched.

Maybe look into the DG120 in X100? They're a little bit lighter than the regular X100s and slightly less stiff. I just got a set with the DG120 in X100 and I love them so far. No issues whatsoever with taking some off and/or working the ball either way
