MEMBER REVIEW: Graphite Design AD-VR Shaft 

Aloha, I was fortunate and very happy to have been chosen to be fitted into a Graphite Design AD-VR shaft with the help of Graphite Designs & Aloha Golf, and here is my review. This is just my .02 and I apologize in advance for the slow swing speed & terrible grammar, lol, but here goes.

 

First of all, I’d like to say “Thank you” to Graphite Design (Erik), Aloha Golf (Chris), and of course Golf WRX (Hipcheck) for the unbelievable awesome experience! To be able to test & receive my favorite brand of shaft and to be fitted & tested with a trackman like a pro by a person who helps fit top pro golfers, it was just a dream come true!

 

DC0QITB54TS2.jpegOk a little bit about myself, I’m just a regular golfer, currently around a 5 hdcp and swing speed WAS around 105 but now its more like 90.  Also back in the day, I have had experience with clubmaking and fitting people, but after getting fit at Aloha Golf w/trackman, I’ve realized its a science and the numbers don’t lie.  

 

 Aloha Golf/Chris - What was supposed to be a 1 hr fitting turned into an 2 hr enjoyable learning experience of all the different shaft and driver heads to see what worked and what didn’t. Chris is full of knowledge, he explained all the info the trackman was spitting out and how one thing affected another, and what was working and not working.

My Gamer - I’m was using a Callaway Rogue Sub Zero 10.5 w/GD AD-Di 6s or TP-7s. I usually hit a slight low draw (and sometimes an ugly hard low snap-hook will show up).

The Fitting - Boy, was I shocked when I saw my swing speed, a mere 89 mph with a carry of only 198 yds (and I had been at the driving range before the fitting)!  

Then Chris fit me into a 50 gram GD AD-VR and WOW! I would have never have thought of dropping down to a 50 gram shaft, thinking the shaft would too flimsy and be all over the place. But the VR was very, very, smooth during transition and stable through impact. Are you telling me that I was able to increase my ss by 5 mph. and carry by 22 yds, just by changing a shaft???

I was blown away!

By the end after testing shafts and heads and going with the Epic Flash/50VR I had increased my ss to a best 99mph with a carry of 248yds!!!

The bottom line is I love this Graphite Design AD-50VR Shaft w/the Callaway Epic Flash head combo! Its just so much easier to hit, load, and release!

This was an extra Bonus! Thanks to Graphite Designs (Erik) I was able to take a tour of the tour vans at the Shriners PGA event at TPC Summerlin.

I always have recommended Graphite Design shafts to my friends and clients and after this fitting I also recommend everyone to go visit Aloha Golf when in Vegas or to get fitted in your hometown. It will change your game!

What’s the street price on that shaft ?

 

also the ad di 6 you were playing before was only like 10g heavier than this new shaft. How could 10g explain 10mph of clubhead speed ?

I'm not sure of the current price? I think its like $350 but if you order it with a club I'm sure its less?

I have hit lightweight shafts before and usually the shaft would be all over the place when you swung hard but the Graphite Design shafts are pretty solid and the low torque kept the head in place, It actually felt more balanced for me and easier to swing thru than a heavier shaft. Also I did focus on catching it more on the upswing at impact by moving the ball position.

All I can say is that I'm very happy with the results and I highly recommend finding a good fitter and trying the different GD Tour AD shafts!

Again I can't even explain how much of a difference it was to get fitted properly and get that new 50 gram AD-VR shaft! Its a whole new ball game! (at least until the newer drivers come out lol).

Also I did get to try a lot of different heads as well like PXG, Ping, Tailormade M5 & M6, and more.

I’ve been a huge fan of Graphite Design for years! Last year a went to Mitsubishi shafts and have had great results. But I’m really getting the itch to try that VR shaft. I just ordered the Mizuno ST190 driver and fairway for less than this shaft retails for. I may just have to get one and try it out!

I did have a great time! Thanks to Erik we had a great tour of the tour vans and yes I'm loving the AD-VR shaft in the driver. That shaft just makes my game so much more consistant, maybe that's helping with the gains. I've noticed that the hard left hook has disappeared (knock on wood) as well.

yes I did get to use it a few times on the course with great (for me) results. The lighter sturdy AD-VR shaft was a game changer for me. The higher ball flight has helped me a lot and also the hard left hook has disappeared. I'm planning on getting my 3 wood/Gapr fitted and re-shafted in the near future.
