Any Taylormade 2020 Irons, Golf Ball in the works?

Recommended Posts

Yellow TP5/TP5x is coming. Normally irons with the same family name as their woods get released but I haven’t hear anything definitive.

I bet ball stays the same but with Pix or a yellow ball. They just changed the ball this year and it's roughly two years between ball refreshes for the OEMs

P750/770 were last released in Jan 2017, and P730 middle of 2017, so I bet we are close to seeing replacements. I'm betting they keep three players irons as well as the 790s in the up and the P7TWs will remain separate from their core lines as that is more of a "signature" product line. So P730/750/770 to go along with the 790s. I would bet some of the tech from the 760s and 790s make their way down into at least the 750/770 though.

I really liked what Titleist did between the T100 and the 620CBs and kind of wish TM did the same thing. 620s being a more traditional iron and the T100s being the same general profile with some new bells and whistles built in.

I was told from a TM Sales Rep, “a P750 true one piece cavity back, was not even a consideration”. How in the hell can that be true with so many pro’s and top ranked amateurs still gaming them never jumped into the 760’s. The 760’s have tech but many don’t want any hollow irons and the change in offset in the set is just not for me. Taylormade golf could have my money with a new 750 club. But going to have to look elsewhere it seems.

I hope something on the P 750 front. I love mine, I tested the P 760 against my set, same shafts etc. Tested them on Trackman and on the course. Didn't see any better performance. Strangely about the exact same actually. I love new stuff, but this one offered me no reason to upgrade. The P 750's for me are money!!

TM definitely needs a P750/760 that resembles the P790 in tech and looks....much needed and the closed cavity is the future since lots of tech can go on inside compared to the dead cavity back design.

I agree. Sure no Players Irons coming. P7TW only being offered in 3/4-PW sets and then having to go into the 760’s. Taylormade is Losing many in the Players Cavity back Market.

So many guys on staff still playing the 750. I'm sure we'll see a replacement at some point, but the P series has been a two year cycle, so there's never been a reason to expect it for 2020.

Not sure how they can improve on near perfection, however.

I dont know why people dont like the P760? I really like them and I think they both look and feel great! Pictures just dont do them justice.

These GI Shovels, as you call them are not made for you. They are made for mid to high handicappers like myself. We like them big and meaty. They encourage confidence. In fact, I would urge TM to make the Gap Wedge in this set more GI. The M6 Gap Wedge was more blade like. If the new one's are this way, I will be purchasing the Cleveland CBX2 Wedge as my Gap Wedge rather than the one that matches the set.

Remember, different sets are for different Target Markets.

Because many think they are clumsy on top, tons of offset and not feeling soft the way P750 feels. When you compare them there are big difference. No hurry yet, I have some spare sets of P750 in my workshop...

On paper, the 760 seemed great for me; in practice, not so much. They launched too high for me and they were just a little too clunky, for lack of a better term. They're really good for the players for whom they're a fit, but it seems like the players targeted by this iron weren't well defined. When you introduce a players CB and none of your staff in the prior model switches to the new model, that's very telling. Overall I think it's hard to view them as anything but a swing and a miss.

The 750 and 770 were instant classics. They nailed the aesthetics, shaping, feel, etc. They looked and performed exactly like I expect a TaylorMade players CB to perform. I would have loved to see iterations of that design language evolve instead of them trying something completely new when refreshing. Let the speed foam stay in the 790 and leave the 750-760-770 category to be a true classic forged CB.
