KBS Tour X iron shaft users, what shaft do you use in your wedges?

I was recently fit for KBS Tour 130 X in my irons, and am now wondering what would be a nice match for my wedges?

Stick to KBS Tour S or S+? Even though that's lighter.

Go to S400? Stiff flex but weight maintained.

Something else?

My fitter threw them in my wedges to match my irons... and I hate it. I had Nike Engages before and I liked them. The heads felt heavy on those. I liked the weight. Have Macdaddy 4's with the KBS and compared to the Nikes I can't feel the heads at all. Can't wait to switch them up.

KBS 610 S+ 125 gram would work well. I had the KBS 130X in my strong sand wedge (which matched my irons at the time) which I liked too. I personally did not like the Hi Rev which Ive also had. Personal preference though.

I had by 50 and 55 degree wedges soft-stepped with the x since I make more full swings with those but wanted the slightly softer shaft for when I took some off. I had my 60 degree installed with the standard stiff. I really dont notice the lighter shaft or wish it was heaver with the 60. I also never hit my 60 full so I did not want to go with the soft stepped x like my other 2 wedges.

S400 is tried and true. It is a fantastic wedge shaft. Keeps the weight. Make sure you specify swingweights with the KBS X... they can SW super light. Even the $Taper 130x without tip weights was at like C7 on a set of MB heads I had.. ridiculous. So much weight up high.

Yeah I did not realize how counter balanced they were and did not specify SW with my MMCs, so had to add a bunch of lead tape to get to D2. Similar with modus 130x

Yep. I had a set of Cobra CB/MB that I tried out for a round and a few range sessions and I could not hit the things. Had KBS Tour S+ in them and the SWs were so light (I think those heads may be light anyways) that I'd lose it in the swing and made horrible contact. Went back to DG and was immediately striping.

Can you please elaborate a bit on the 610 on full vs. partial shots? I understand it flies lower, but is it still pretty good spin?

I've got black nickel Tour X 8 Iron shafts in my wedges (S+ in my irons) and I really like them. Solid feel and good spin. I don't plan on changing them anytime soon but I have considered the Hi Rev just to test.

Hard to beat an S400 though, probably one of the best wedge shafts ever made.

What 'effective' flex does the Tour X 8 iron play to in your wedges? Is it basically like 130 gram equivalent stiff flex? Thanks.

Based on Howard's chart, they should be very close to the S+ with a little extra weight (minus what you lose when you cut to length.) That was my reason for pairing them with the S+ in my irons, seems to work together well.

That approach makes sense. That's primarily why I was considering the S400 because it's 132 gram and a true stiff flex. I presume your irons/wedges were build up to your desired SW? So many folks comment how the counter-balanced design of the KBS Tour results in a light SW unless the proper SW is requested.

Yeah, I built them so I was able to SW how I wanted. I've never had an issue with getting the right SW and my wedges measure heavier than my irons. I play my 58* a tad longer (same length as my 54) so that makes it measure a little higher.

Honestly, S400 is really hard to beat so you I don't think you'll be disappointed if you go that route. I am happy with the KBS at the moment but I always have a couple S400 on hand just in case, lol.

Thanks for the info. I think I will likely go S400. It will be easier overall I think. Btw, as an aside, did you come from DG X100 before you used KBS Tour X? If so, what made you switch? For me it was the smooth feel and dispersion improvement.

I was looking for a higher flight in my irons. I've always hit a low ball so I was looking for a little help. I played X100 straight in and soft stepped, PX 6.5 straight in and soft stepped, KBS Tour X soft stepped and now the S+. Honestly though, I'm just a tinker-er and always want to try something different. I like building projects so I just buy and try vs getting fit. KBS and X100ss have been my favorite feels, happy with the S+ at the moment but who knows what's next, lol.

Thanks for the info! Do you use the 610 in GW, SW, and LW? Flex? Curious where to transition off the Tour X into the 610.

In my sig block. I had 610 in GW and liked it but have recently been using my same iron shaft in GW, as I treat it as a full swing club

My current set up I have X100 in irons and wedges.

New set up I will have Project x 6.5 soft stepped and keep X100 in wedges.

Just curious how you soft stepped the wedge shafts - I believe they stop at the 9 iron and from there down all the shafts are the same?

This was the set up I was told I was getting from a fitter a few years back. I didn't build them personally so maybe my understanding was wrong? Or even worse the fitter didn't understand haha
