Are C Tapers still bending at the tip?

I'm back playing again after a 7-8 year layoff. Bought MP20s with S300. Pulled them in favor of C Taper S+ I had installed on my last set of clubs, Ping i15s.

After prepping everything, installing tip weights, etc, realized the tips were bent. After progressing through the 5 stages of grief, I ordered a new set of shafts from KBS. I figured it was my fault. That I did it pulling the shafts.

Did a search and I see this is a not uncommon problem.

My weekend has a cloud of sadness hanging over it. I thought I'd be installing grips this morning and going to the range tomorrow.

Sorry to tell you, but KBS has done nothing to address the problem. They just feign surprise and hand out more shafts. Cancel your order and contact Cust. Service and get some free replacements.

I contacted them. I'm not canceling my order because right now I have no clubs, only parts.

Hopefully it's not a never ending problem. I'm much more accurate with the C Taper. It basically tightens my dispersion by 50% +/-.

Unless KB fundamentally changes his shaft design philosophy ALL KBS steel shafts will eventually bend at the tips.

He does not believe in reinforcing the tips of his designs. I have bent original satin PX, KBS tours, and C-Tapers.

I played them for two seasons and didn’t have the issue. I also never practice off of mats .

side note they did give me elbow problems and I moved on. I loved the ball flight and load of them

Guys like them, but of all the clubs I have taken apart, I never took apart a set that had KBS shafts in them without finding one or more bent at the tip. Most guys never even realized they were bent.

Only reason I know mine were not was that I pulled them to soft step about mid way through , could have bent after that though. Wouldn’t surprise me as I am a digger

The top one, you would definitely notice. The bottom one, you might not notice at all.

I tried to debate which shafts would be noticeable and which would be acceptable. The problem is once you notice something like this you can't ignore it.

At the end of the day, I'm deciding to accept the possibility of a bend. But I need to start fresh.

The first one wouldn't be going back into a club, if it were me. Likely looking at about a 3º deviation from straight.

Yes hitting off mats is the worst

Those are definitely bent. But I do love that shaft. Beats up my elbows too much but I get very tight dispersion with it.

It's common and it's a catch 22. If you want them to feel like the awesome shafts that they are, there's no changing the design and you have to expect them to bend. However, KBS is great about replacing them so the secret is to be really hardcore and have 2 sets on a rota. It sucks, but I don't like DG X100's, so I'm sticking with the C-Tapers for now.
