Wishon launches 2nd generation of SL irons

Wishon just announced they're discontinuing their Sterling line of single length irons and launching a new line. I didn't see that coming.

It is still such a niche product. A bigger manufacturer like Cobra can move enough sets to justify the production costs, but a lesser known brand with no real advertising or brick and mortar retail exposure is going to have a hard time moving them.

Agree with Mordrid, Wishon is a niche. Only can purchase thru an authorized Wishon club fitter. Avg rec golfer probably has no clue who Wishon is.

Single length irons will be an option, one way or the other. Always good to have options. They don't really seem to have a beginning or an end.

In 2017, 60 percent of Cobra's F7 sales were single length, 40 percent variable length.

So Sterling is discontinued and a new set is about to be announced. Sounds about right. Sterling has been a huge hit for Wishon.

Regarding single length viability, personally, I would prefer a set where the longer clubs are set in length but not the shorter scoring clubs. I believe Nickent had such a set but nobody wanted them...but I still like the idea.

Wishon Golf has announced today the end of production of its popular Sterling Irons single-length range of golf clubs.

The single-length Sterling Irons were designed by legendary golf club head designer Tom Wishon and have proved to be one of the most popular products in the Wishon Golf range for the past three years.

Daren Treacy, Managing Director of Diamond Golf, owners of Wishon Golf, said, “The decision to close-out the existing Sterling Irons products has been made due to a new single-length product range being added to the Wishon Golf product line in the first half of 2020.

“It was always the intention of Tom and myself to discontinue the Sterling Irons single length product at the end of 2019, hence the decision to close-out the current stock.”

As part of the Close-Out Pricing, customers will receive 15 per cent discount on their current price list for all Sterling Irons remaining in stock.

With regards to the new Wishon Golf single length products to be released in 2020, Tom Wishon said, “I’m really excited about the new range of single length irons, as well as the other new clubs in the bag associated with them.

“There will be a number of design features to make this new range a versatile and viable single-length product range for use by a wide range of golfing abilities. We will be providing more information to our customers on the new line of Wishon Golf single length products in the New Year.”

For those customers eager to hear more about the new generation single length range, expect an announcement in the early part of 2020. Until then, our lips are sealed ;)

I've heard a little about the the "our lips are sealed" part. This will be very cool for the single length concept, and fitting options/range. Count on Tom!

OOOOOOOOH MY. I wonder what changes are coming. I'd like to see more hybrid options offered 4h-7h. I always desired just a little bit more height from my 6 and 7. Loved the 5h. Whatever magic metal recipe Tom made the 8-GW with I loved. I never cared for the SW. I don't mind being an early adopter. I still game the originals never put them away.

Let's be honest... If Tom is excited about it, that means he collaborated in the design, etc. and all of us should probably be excited too

I've got a set of Sterlings in my personal inventory, and I thought they were good clubs. My only objection is that they played to an 8-iron length, and Tom was adamant about not trying to build them long. So, I ended up playing Cobras, which play to a 7-iron length. I'll be very interested to see this new design.

Hope the springy noise from the 4-7i is gone.

Might be a good idea to wait till the new offerings are out and you should get a good comparison of both. Tom doesn't make new designs until he sees that it makes significant improvements. I am hoping that the new SL irons will have a more subdued sound for the longer irons, that's the only complaint I have for my Sterling SL right now. Actually just shot a career best 71 today with a hole out from 93 yards on the last hole for eagle. Going SL has help me to drop quite a few strokes even with less practice time.

Tom puts a lot of thought and testing into his designs and I doubt he'd release a Gen2 head unless it was an improvement on the Sterlings.

Also, this is a Wishon product, no longer a collaboration with Sterling.

I currently don't play SL irons but I may get a set of these built just for shits and giggles. I've always wanted to try SL and Tom is excited about these so I'm sure they are really good. Look for a March release according to Tom.
