KBS Tour 90 to Tour V

DISCLOSURE: Yes, this is related to KBS bent tips, so before anyone suggests switching from KBS altogether, please understand I would go through a fitting to do that. The scope of this question is limited to comparison of KBS products for a replacement set as detailed below. Even if I bend the tips again, well, I like doing club work...

Noticed my set of Tour 90 S-flex iron shafts had slightly bent tips and am working with KBS customer service on getting a replacement set. They have been very responsive and after I sent a set of pictures, the rep suggested that I may be too strong for the Tour 90 S and that he could send a set of Tour V 100g R-flex if I wanted.

Does anyone have experience with these two shafts? I went with the Tour 90's since I don't have a very high swing speed (~100 mph), don't load the club too aggressively, and am not a very high ball hitter, so I was looking for a bit more height and spin. I'm comfortable with my carry distances and would prioritize height over distance. Thanks for any input!

No experience with Tour-90 or Tour V-100 as they are "R". But I have 2-PW set of KBS Tour V-110's in Stiff in a set of TM TSi TP irons kept as guest irons. What I didn't like about Tour V-110 stiff is trajectory was a bit low but they felt good. They are still popular on tours too. My assessment is odd since before moving to my current tip-stiff graphite shafts which are same 110 gram weight I played tip-stiff 120 gram PX 6.0 since 2006.

Thanks for the response. Not a fan of lower trajectory, and I generally don't think about sniffing around the stuff used on tour. If that's your observation and you've got the club head speed to game a 2-iron, signs are pointing to me sticking to the Tour 90's.

I'm also interested in hearing responses, since the Tour V-100's are on my short list of shafts I'd like to try, but you just don't see very many of them out there.

Yep, I still love my 17* 2 iron. Even have my old Mizuno 16* 1-iron that I take out of mothballs now and again.

FYI; the distinctions between Tour-V 100® and Tour V-110(S) shafts are flex and weight. Also Tour-V shafts are taper tip .355, as opposed to Tour 90 is parallel .370. TOUR V - KBS

1 iron? Yikes. Well it seems like the Tour V is a fairly different animal and knocking off height and spin isn't what I need, so sticking with the Tour 90 is probably what I'll do. Thanks for your help.

First set of KBS I ever tried were the Tours (although not the Tour 90). Liked the feel, but hit everything way too to high and had a tendency to miss left. Put a set of the Tour V in the same heads, and loved them. I went from S in the Tours (120g) to 2x soft-stepped X in the Tour V (120g). Ball flight definitely came down, and dispersion improved. They felt a little "boardier", but I guess that was to be expected.

Actually thinking of buying a set of pulls in the Tour V to put in a set of Ping ISI Nickles I'm re-shafting over the winter.

And for what it's worth, the Tour 90 is available in both .355 taper and .370 parallel.

To OP, you aren't bending tips due to being "too strong". Most likely from hitting off mats or regularly playing course conditions with firm/hard ground. I've played quite a bit with the Tours, Tour Vs, and CTapers, and have never experienced the bent tips (my SS is only moderately higher than yours). I'm only guessing KBS is suggesting the Tour V in R because 1) they would likely play similar to the Tour in S, and 2) they have a larger diameter "tube", and in theory would be more resistant to bending, although the bending occurs in the tip inside the hosel, which will be the same diameter in each.

Tour V will lower your ball flight and spin (they do that even compared to Tour 120s) so it does not seem a good fit considering what you are looking for
