Oban CT 115 vs KBS C-taper 120

Someone shed some light on this comparison please, has anyone ever tried them both? how did they perform? how did they feel? i personally have Oban CT 115 with the srixon z585 z785 combo but i have an opportunity to make a trade with money on top of it.

I have a set of C-Taper 120 in Stiff but no longer in my irons. They just didn't feel right to my hands but that doesn't make them a bad choice. They are low-mid trajectory shafts with high bend and stiff tips, similar to PX 6.0, my old shafts.

They say CT 115 are a mid-high trajectory shaft, more like KBS Tour with active tip sections. Constant weight is a good thing as each shaft in the set is the same weight. My Steelfiber 110 gram shafts are constant weight only have a mid-high bend and low-mid trajectory with low-mid spin from preferred stiff tips. IMO, Oban CT 115 are unproven so between the two I'd go with KBS C-Taper 120, but if they work for you, stick with them. KBS C-Taper shafts are not for most golfers.

interesting i never heard anyone say the obans were unproven, i thought they were supposed to be premium shafts. but yeah man thank you.

I would say they are nothing alike. Have the oban ct115 are smooth, high flight, good feel and dispersion. I found the c taper 120 to be opposite. The c taper lite might be closer to the oban ct115. Now if you like he px 6.0 you might like the c taper.

Agree with the comment above. The CT115 shafts are very different from the c tapers. Very smooth, mid to slightly high trajectory, and just an amazing feel. I have them in two sets and while I may change the heads from time to time, am never letting these shafts go...

C tapers felt very boardy and harsh to me. Not saying everyone will have that experience, but they are nothing like the Obans in feel.

Unproven only in the sense that nobody, least that I am aware of, on the PGA tour uses them, there's little talk about them and nobody I know has even tested or stocks them. That doesn't mean they are not premium shafts, their price is surely premium. Oban graphite shafts are another subject altogether.

I have hit the Oban 115 and gamed fhe C Taper 120. The C Taper is a far more demanding shaft. Not a given that a player who fits one will fit the other. I find CTaper to be stiff to flex and I fit an R-plus in that shaft. My best shots with CTaper stiff look perfect but it wears me out. CPM on them is pretty high per flex.

My guess would be the Oban will launch higher for you than the stiff or R-plus. I liked the Oban but didnt buy because I thought they were too expensive vs DG 120, Nippon 120, KBS CTaper Lite or PX

Don’t get me wrong. CTaper is a tremendous shaft. I love the penetrating ball flight. If you like Project X Rifles, as I do, you will like CTapers. Great in the wind. But you have to get the flex right. Don’t go by flex designations among different shafts. I would bet a C Taper R-plus is as stiff as the Oban stiff. Recommend you try them out.
