I've been playing a driver shaft at 44.5" for most of this season and am really liking it. For those of you that play a shorter driver length, do you play shorter than standard fairway woods too? I'm thinking about shortening my 3 wood to see if my consistency improves with it. Anyone else do this?

Shorten my 3w by .5'' but everything else is standard length.

My set up is 44.75” driver, 42.5” 3 wood and 40.25” hybrid. The uniform 2.25” reduction works perfectly for me.

I took my driver down to 44.5" this year as well and probably lost a few yards but hit it more solid and consistently in play....so cut my 3 wood down to 42.75" at end of season and picked up a 42.5" 4+ wood and happy with how I'm striking ball with both indoors - will find out next spring if I still like cutdown on the course and which club I like hitting better from fairway or tee on tight holes and I'll pick one. So I'd say yes.

Absolutely, I go as low as 44" driver and 42.25" 3 wood, works wonders for better control and not much lost distance.

I play driver at 43-43.5 and play my 16.5 (4 wood) or 18 (5 wood) at 41.75"

I have my driver playing at 44.25 which has gave me much better accuracy with no loss of speed or distance i also have my 3 wood shorten to 42.25 which has also helped. I mean , I think alot of guys that struggle with the driver and wood accuracy could benifit from goin shorter if. You really dont start seeing any speed loss until you go dramatically short. Ive actually gained yards because ive raised my smash factor by hitting the center of the face more often with the shorter playing length. Cobra even offers a tour length driver coming in at 43.50 inches long, alot of guys on tour play shorter drivers aswell. Think the average length is right at 44 inches with a total weight of 330 grams.

Yep, I went shorter. I'm currently using a 43.5" driver and 42.5" 3 wood and really like the control and dispersion I've gained and not too much loss in distance.

I really felt like it was drivers that got too long and it was not as much of an issue with fairways. So driver at 44.5 and 3 wood at 43.25 (down 1/4 inch from standard) then 5 wood at 42.5. Big difference with my driver from 45.5, which was too long for me to square consistently.

stock FW length are a bit longer than what might more typically be a good fit for most, but they are not quite as bad as the stock driver playing lengths.

Yup, driver is 44.5" stock for me and 3w is usually always 42.5".

I went through this drill and it was interesting. One thing I learned is that my preconceived notion that I did best with swingweights of D2 or heavier was wrong.

What I actually react to is total weight of the build and also shaft length. I could hit various swingweights and adjust pretty quickly as long as the total weight was at a certain level and the shaft was not too long. (44.5 driver, 37.5 5 iron.) Was hitting some irons at D0 and others at C8 and even C6 and made no difference. What I thought was swing weight affecting me was really just weight.

My driver is 44.25" and my fairway wood is a Flash SZ 5w at 17 degrees. I got aftermarket head weights and cut the wood down to 42".

I play my driver 43, 3W 42 & 5W 41.
