Compression clothing

Hey all,

Just curious on people's thoughts about compression clothing, specifically shirts or full length pants. I know there are small slip on pieces for calves or arms... I think Louie O wears something like it on one arm.

Less fatigue as mfgs claim? Or no real difference

I mainly wear compression for warmth. There are some compression tops that are specifically geared towards golfers, but I feel they're more of a gimmick than anything else.

I feel like the warm gear compression shirts from under armor constrain the golf swing. Can’t get as deep and you get fast.

but staying warm is more important

It's great to keep warm when playing during winter months. I typically buy a size or two big so it doesn't restrict my swing too much.

I come and go on them. I only ever wear them for warmth. I find that Under Armour restricts me at the top of my backswing. I like the FootJoy ones, they are slightly looser fitting.

The trousers (I can’t call them tights because I don’t wear tights) are good although, I find myself wondering why I am golfing when it is cold enough to need them on.

They are great for keeping cool and sun protection and the cold weather ones are great for cold weather.

For warmth, I've switched away from compression garments to the 32 Degrees heat tees & pants that are sold at Costco for $15 for a 2-pack. They're warm, soft and not as constricting as compression garments, which I find distracting.

Love the Galvin Green compression stuff. Top notch. Extremely lightweight but very warm.

I wear compression for warmth, pants and tops. If it is in the 50's i wear a heat gear compression instead of a jacket. I never noticed if it helps fatgue.

When I played ultimate in college I wore tights regardless of the weather. I found that I had fewer issues with cramping late in tournaments when it was hot, and I felt looser when it was cold.

For golf now I only wear compression gear when it’s cold.

I have tried the UA stuff in the past but found it uncomfortable and not very breathable. And I could do a stand in for Michelin Man when he was on vacation. I find merino wool base layers far superior.

Agreed on the UA stuff, it was too thick for me as well. I bought an off brand on Amazon for a present, this stuff was thin but felt supportive. Haha and cheap.

I thought the idea of compression technology was to keep you cool?

There are two versions. UA calls is heat and cold gear. Iirc Nike uses the word thermal to indicate the cold weather version.

I like the compression gear for cooler weather, and use a cool gear in the summer under polos. I don't feel like the cooler weather stuff restricts my swing at all. Not sure it helps with fatigue, I think if anything that would be a very small benefit, but it gives me a layer under polos so they don't stick to me if/when I sweat. I feel the non-warmth benefits of compression gear more in other activities like running or biking, not so much in golf, and not necessarily fatigue but aerodynamics, if that makes any sense. Much better biking with compression bottoms or sleeves than a jacket flapping in the wind.

It may be semantics but I prefer fitted sizing vs true compression. Less restrictive for my golf game. My preferred brand is UA.

Not semantics. There’s definitely a different between the fitted and the compression with ua. I lean towards the fitted as well

Reading that has brought back memories of playing at a Scramble at a local club a few years ago. Guy in the group in front had a UA base layer on with nothing on top of it. He made John Daly look svelte and he was chestier than Paige Spiranic. It was a horrendous look on the course, even worse in the bar afterwards.

I may be total minority but I find the under Armour compression stuff simply does not keep me warm. I went to cabelas mid weight long Jon’s, perfect

Are you using the UA cold gear stuff or their regular compression stuff in the heat gear lineup?
