Tips/drills for starting the downswing with lower body/proper sequencing

Hi all! Anybody have any good drills for starting the downswing with your lower body? Anything that's worked for you guys?

I've always had the "hit instinct" from the top of the backswing. This leads to square hips at impact when they should've already rotated through plus lots of casting. Thanks everyone ?

good posture helps a lot. If you feel your feet behind you in the posture, you are forced to use them to get to the ball, rather than hitting from the top.

You have to be patient, in your mind you are driving it 200 yards instead of the 350 yards you are trying to hit it to lol.

so left foot, then knees, then left hip, hip pulls torso ( i,e hip leads pelvis..pelvis is part of your torso, the hips are not and contrary to all the crap written, hips and pelvis are two separate things, then the shoulders and arms, but upper arms then forearms and wrist release through..while head stays back. All done at the joints..no need for restriction/tightness. This will keep the clubhead behind you till it's needed. You can drill this slowly

Look on YouTube for GG Swingtips or Russell Heritage. They seem to have the most intense focus on the lower body.

Restore leg flex, add a little more, then burn.

Thanks for the tips. I think the issue is I know what I SHOULD be doing but the tricky part is getting my body to actually do it. Especially after so many years of doing it wrong. That's why I need "feel" drills. Will just take time :)

Never heard that expression: feet behind you in the posture. I think that's a really good description. One that I have also heard is feeling like you lean forward over a hedge. Too many people set up too much in the heels.

I don't really understand the expression. To me, it makes it sound like weight should be on heels when I hear "feet behind you". Can you please explain?

Watch their step drill for transitioning video. It will help you deal with a ton of these issues without really having to over analyze it. Just take your backswing and before you get to the top, stet your lead foot towards the target an inch or so. Your natural athleticism will take over from there

Rear leg extends to load and flexes to unload which creates another load on top of ground to use.

This step drill has been mentioned a lot. I think you nailed it when you say not "over analyze it" and use my "natural athleticism". The transition happens so quickly that you don't really have time to "think" about anything. It has to be a natural, athletic motion, like throwing a ball or skipping a stone. I'll give this step drill a go. I've tried it before but I think I have to devote an entire practice session to it to really give it a shot.

The transition you’re asking about is really what separates great golf swings from not so great golf swings, IMO. The key for me is to take club head straight back low and extend right leg enough to push my right butt cheek straight back against an imaginary wall about 3 inches behind me. Weight never goes more than ~ 50% to right side. The tension in the right thigh/glute will let the rest of your body know when to start the transition.

Yeah @jamiegolfer it did the trick for me. Don't get me wrong, it took a good amount of time. But even now when things get squirrelly, even during a round, I'll do the drill. It seems to wake up the body and shut down the brain fairly well haha.

Correct sequencing really does seem to be the key to solid distance and solid contact. It seems like it'd solve a lot of swing issues like early extension, casting, etc. And as mentioned before, all great players have great sequencing.

Another good feeling is to feel like you actually (literally) want to throw the club as far as you can!

For me I like to use the simple idea of looking right to the target when in the finish position (right handed). Basically it means I rotated through the ball. Of course ymmv.
