Have a cobra f9 3 wood I hit ~265 off the tee and ~255 off the deck and a 4 iron I hit 230-235, looking for a driving iron type club that would split the distance between the two well, has anyone tried the gapr mid? Haven’t liked hybrids that much in the past but the callaway super hybrid does look pretty cool, really interested in the mid though, for driver swing speed of ~116 would the Tensei orange 80g hybrid shaft in stiff work well with it? Any thoughts feel free to chime in. I have a u510 1 iron that I hit way too close to the distance of my 3 wood and if I wasn’t in love with it I would sell it.

Btw I have nippon modus 105 stiff in my irons and they seem a bit light, have 75g shaft in my 3 wood and love it

First of all, welcome to WRX. It'd be worth the effort to go to a golf superstore and hitting everything (yeah even the used bin) to see what you like. I personally use a 5WD to cover the gap but to each his own.

if Your U510 1 iron is too long, but you love it, why not just get a U510 2 iron or 3 iron? That makes sense to me.

Try a 5 wood. I have always and still am a 2 iron player depending of course/conditions but my 5 wood is money! It’s great cause I can land it a lot softer on a green than a 2 iron or something of that realm. Never really found a hybrid I could keep in the bag.

I had a similar gap (220 4-iron & 270 3 wood) and went with the srixon z u85 2 iron which I can hit about 260 off the tee. Didn't have a great chance to test distances since the club isn't available at your everyday golf stores (GG), so the 3 probably would have fit my gap a bit better but the club is very forgiving and feels amazing. Srixon also doesn't upcharge for most shafts so there's a good chance you can match your iron set...just gotta be able to find a way to test it against your current set/distances.

Why not try a U510 or U500 in the 2 or 3 iron? Seems like that would work if you’re liking your U510 one iron.

Let's start with one tidbit you gave us - Modus 105 stiff shafts in irons, may feel a little light. It appears you may be more aggressive with your driver and 3W swing than with your irons. Not the most common, but it is something good fitters take into account. So, your driver shaft is not an automatic indicator of what you need in your irons - and possibly other clubs.

You have solid clubhead speed, so this gives you flexibility in that final bridge club, to hit the bracket between 230 and 255 yards.Almost as much as yardage factor would be trajectory of the club. Do you want something to get the ball up if in the rough, maybe stop a little into long par 3 holes? If so, you might want a higher launching 5W or even a 7W. If you want a lower trajectory, a driving iron or a 3ish Hybrid with a lower-launching shaft might be best.

If you have had trouble with hybrids in past, try out the Tour Edge CBX and CBX.119 models. Come with bonded (non-adjustable) heads in lofts 16*-20* in one degree increments, and then jumps to 22*; features both low- and mid-launch stock shafts. The TE reps market this model as left-proof.
