REVIEW: SIK pro armlock with LAGP putter shaft.

I was fortunate enough to win the giveaway for the SIK pro armlock with New LAGP putter shaft and JumboMax grip. I want to say thank you to GolfWrx, SIK, LAGP, and JumboMax for this beautiful putter.

The process: I was sent an email from Marc at SIK putters telling me to contact him so we can set up my specs over the phone. Between my two year old screaming in the background and watching a short YouTube video Marc had sent me on how the putter should fit, I was able to measure the length I needed and Marc took care of the rest. Three days later I had the putter in hand.

The Putter: First look out of the box this thing is nice. I’ve never arm-locked before however I was able to take the putter to the basement and roll some putts on my mat. After a few putts it was clear this style of putting is for me. Much like the rest of us I have used traditional grip, left hand low, claw, pretty much anything and everything to feel comfortable while holding a putter. Armlock grip feels right. I’m 6’5 and the position this putter puts me into is natural. The putter is 44 inches, 78 lie, 7 degrees loft. JumboMax grip positioned flat side facing the hole. With a clean top alignment line, black shaft and traditional shape this putter is easy on the eyes. The JumboMax grip rests perfectly on my forearm. With a traditional putter I was worried about too many variables and forgot about speed and line. With this putter, variables that plagued my thought process are gone because of the setup and trust in that setup.

The Shaft: the LAGP shaft is very unique. I have used both the KBS putter shaft and original Stability shaft. The stability shaft makes the putter feel like a sledge hammer and the KBS felt like a normal putter shaft. Although these two competitors were not in an armlock the stiffness and weight are not as user friendly as the LAGP shaft. This LAGP putter shaft keeps the swing weight feeling like a normal off the rack putter however is very stable and forgiving. Rolling putts gives a soft but firm feeling. The graphics are nicely hidden on the underside of the shaft allowing for no distraction during use. Lag putts with the stability shaft does work, no joke, for longer putts it’s the real deal. Short putts I struggled with speed. The LAGP shaft shines in both short and lag putts. I don’t lose the speed because the LAGP does not create the sledgehammer effect like the stability shaft did for me.

Usage of Putter: Marc from SIK over the phone told me this putter is like cheating. Well when that is said over the phone by the guy selling the putter, giving away in my case, I couldn’t help but laugh. However if this is a honeymoon I don’t want it to end. Putting with the puttout training aid the ball rolls end over end. I haven’t had this with traditional putters for awhile. We all know the few times after a round when we think if only that birdie dropped or that par putt had not stayed out what a round it could have been. I took this new putter to the greens over the holidays and rolled on real grass. After a few putts I had a locked in feeling (pun intended). 3 foot, 10 foot, and long lag putts were rolling how I wanted them to. It was like cheating. The putter, arm locking, LAGP shaft everything matched exactly what I had been looking for in other putters. The feeling this putter creates is nothing I have had in a long time. I had putts coming off the putter where I knew they were in without even looking up. I continually thought about the video Marc from SIK sent me about set up and it become my routine.

Finally, I am aware that hard work on the practice green will lead to lower scores but I can’t help to think this setup and style of putting will help my game. I would purchase the LAGP putter shaft over the Stability shaft. I would spend my money for a SIK over an odyssey or Bettinardi armlock if only because of the experience I had speaking directly to Marc from SIK during the process. I know I was given this putter but armlocking being dependent on fit, SIK is the way to go. Arm locking IMHO is a game changer and the SIK/LAGP/JumboMax combo is the only way to go. If you have any questions for me I’d love to answer. Thanks again to Marc, SIK, LAGP, GolfWrx, and JumboMax. Here is to no 3 putts in 2020. Happy New Year!

Great post. Just ordered a Sik Flo C on eBay. I'm hoping that it will work for me. How hard would you say it is to self-fit yourself into an armlock? I don't know if I want to commit yet, nor do I want to pay $100 to Club Champion for a putter fitting.

I'm 6'1", my arms are 28 1/2" off the ground. It was listed at 42". It has a cheap Winn 15" grip on it, but will probably replace it with a JumboMax. However, when it got here, it's about 1/2-1" longer than my brother's Bettinardi that was also listed at 42". Measuring it, seems a shade over 43".

Not sure about the lie angle or loft.

Got it. Just putting at home, I think I will need to take maybe 1-2 inches off. I'm thinking I need 42 or 41 1/2". Watched the video, and will probably need to do what you did to confirm my suspicions. If you had to purchase the LAGP shaft, would you pay the premium over a regular steel putter shaft?

I’m going to give the new odyssey two ball arm lock a try.

Q.   If I decide to add or take away a couple of inches is that a big deal? For example, if I purchase a 42 inch and decide to add a couple of inches, is that a whole lot different from just buying the 44 inch?  Or the converse, I buy the 44 and decide later I want to go down to 42?

thanks.

how long is your jumbo max grip?   Watching the video where they grip down to the bottom of the grip, how long is the grip being used on the video?
