Taylormade SIM Drivers

AT06

Recommended Posts

Now the SIM has been officially released, what's peoples thoughts?

The shape and colours to me are much better, and not too wild either.

"We asked our engineers to give you more distance & forgiveness in any way, shape, or form. SHAPE won. The all-new SIM, SIM Max & SIM Max-D drivers feature a rotated inertia Generator designed to make this new head shape faster at the moment where the golfer needs it most - in the downwing"

There are at least two threads in the tour release section that have been going for weeks with pictures and responses directly from a Taylormade rep. Nothing wrong with starting a thread here but there has already been a lot of information released in those threads.

For me - the bottom looks really ugly but like most things, it will start to look normal and acceptable over time. The crown and face still look great. I really like the carbon top. Usually, I’m a big fan of blue but I liked the blood red from last year and kind of wish they stuck with that (even though we all know that would never happen).

I don’t know if this is fact but I believe there was mention of this possibly being a shallower head. To me, it doesn’t look shallower, and I hope it’s not, because I tend to enjoy a deeper face. I play the Epic Flash Sub Zero now so the shallower heads do something weird to my comfort level. I don’t hit them worse, they just don’t look right to me.

I have only played one Taylormade driver in 26 years, so maybe it’s time to give one a try. Or, pick up an M5 on the cheap.

on a couple threads people are tearing apart the look of the drivers and I dont get why... I like the color scheme and think overall they look darn good! People are saying they copied cobra but the m6 was out last year already and these companies are developing drivers years in advance. Just because Cobra releases or leaks their drivers first, people are acting like TM "copied" Cobra in a matter of weeks

I look forward to trying them out b/c TM has always seemed to work for me the best

Pretty sweet stock shafts. SIM is Diamana Limited S (S+?) and HZRDUS Smoke Green. SIM Max is Ventus Blue and Red (no VeloCore), and the MAX D is UST Helium. Hybrid is Ventus Blue 6/7 hybrid. Grip is a Golf Pride Z-Grip. Seems pretty good options!

Sheils review shows no speed gain ( his words ) and he praises the look and feel , so didn’t hate it.

He's getting a bit less cringy. No click bait on that vid and a nice honest and balanced review. TM makes great metalwoods - that is proven by the amount of non contract players that use them - but their marketing is absolutely ridiculous at the best of times. Sure, they addressed some things about the M5 and M6 that weren't the best but these things aren't going to make you swing faster and ball speeds will be almost identical. I really preferred the look of the M5, but I'm sure these will start to look normal over time. The Mai Gulf Spi CG report last year showed both were quite fade bias. We will see if these are a bit more neutral. In any event it would take quite the performance to make me switch from TS3.

Oh I see now. You are one of those people, the ones that have to try to make up some vague reasoning as to why their little argument makes sense. Grow up, and stop trying to make vague points, twisting things into something they’re not in an attempt to itch some weird craving for self vilification. I told you why I made a new thread in this forum section now it’s been officially released, and you are picking a pointless argument for absolutely no self gain. I don’t doubt you’ll come back with some little and vague response, yet again like a stuck record...and when you do I will simply reply with the phrase “called it”.

Back on topic then for those that just prefer to enjoy themselves and talk about golf, after watching a few more videos I really think Rick Shiels has it on point - has TaylorMade actually produced anything of a measurable gain here? I suppose it would take a hell of a lot of robotic testing to find that out for sure, but on the face of these preliminary reviews it’s most likely a no. Most agree the styling is much better, but for anyone who currently bags the 2019 models, the 2021 onwards drivers will most likely see a gain worth spending the cash on.

My 2016 M2 performs just a good as the M5/M6 and I am quite certain it will as well against the SIM/SIM Max. I have no interest in paying the crazy prices the drivers are going for today, especially when there is no quantum leap in distance gains, or forgiveness. As one poster already mentioned, heads have been maxed out for quite a while now and gains are minimal at best. However they hype continues year after year with each new driver release.

Based on seeing Matt from TXG hit both, I'd say they are still both a little bit fade bias, but closer to neutral. However.... don't you want to get your hands on that sick inertia generator!!!??

I still can't get over them shamelessly calling a weight plug in the back an "inertia generator". When I heard the TM rep say it, I literally laughed out loud. TM must think most golfers are dull or something. It's all about buzz words I guess.
