What does everyone think of these? Anyone have any experience?

Seems all tour pros are wearing them now. I have heard/read they are amazing and tracking all aspects of training, sleep, recover, etc.

Definitely interested but I am not a tour player/pro athlete. I do train hard each and every day but I want to see if there are any “normal people” out there who are using.

I bought my wife one for her birthday in December and she loves it. She works out twice a day and the recovery time estimator has been extremely beneficial for her. Plus the sleep pattern function has led to us changing some pre sleep routines, etc. She used to exclusively wear her Apple watch but now only wears her Whoop as it's made the watch obsolete for anything but telling time.

Not worth it in my opinion. If you're a numbers guy or girl and invest all of your effort and feelings into what a digital device says by measuring sleep quality, physical output through a heartbeat sensor, etc. etc. then sure go ahead. It's a fad that will, not die off, but evolve to be integrated in a future watch band or something of the sort.

I believe this is subscription based monthly and the band is either a nominal fee or included if a long term subscription is purchased. So it's the "it" thing right now with who's been seen wearing them and their history. It's a luxury item.

My only real beef with it is that I don't need a wrist band telling me how my recovery or how I am feeling. Trust that if I get a big heavy workout in the morning including compound movement through resistance training coupled with cardio and stretching at the end and chase that down with 18 or so holes in the afternoon followed by a bunch of drinks at the game with the guys at night and I only sleep 3 hours, I'll know I'll feel like crap tomorrow. I know not that if I push myself that day, it probably won't be an awesome performance.

Most of all, it's an excuse. The device says that you're at a 7 or 8 then you're gonna act like you're at that level and make it an excuse. Sometimes, that's fuel to push harder.

End rant.

I’ve been wearing one for about a month. I think the data is interesting, but so far it has not changed my behavior at all. I need a few more days of data before it will start making recommendations on how to recover better. I’m curious how that will go.

If you’re a person who likes to use data to try and improve, then I think it’s worth at least doing 3-6 months. I like having the data even if it’s just confirming what I already know. Kind of the same way I think of using arccos on the course.

I certainly haven’t found it to be a game changer, but it’s a promising concept and I like to try stuff out. With the data they’re gathering they certainly could stumble onto something big.

I like the idea of them but I absolutely hate wearing anything on my wrist whilst I am golfing so I am not sure I would be keen to give it a go. Is it noticeable whilst you are out there playing.

You won't notice it golfing, I don't even notice mine on my wrist anymore. I've been wearing mine since September and from a data perspective, it's the best tracker out there and its very in depth data. I was surprised how strenuous just 18 holes in a golf cart was!!!! Listen to the WHOOP podcast, it has great information about how other athletes use the data.

Good concept that started in higher level sports (NBA, MLB, Crossfit) and seems to have died off now making it's way into golf. Definitely beneficial for bringing awareness to recovery and sleep. Besides cheap straps, poor battery life compared to a Garmin or other smart watch that actually tells time, the HRV formula is flawed and a 1 week sample is way way way too short to establish HRV norms. For your average Joe it's a great tool if you understand how to apply it, for the serious competitor (not golf) it will be lackluster. Should be perfect for golfer and PGA guys to monitor activity and readiness roughly.

Ya definitely something I want to try for sleep and recovery since I know I burn myself out and push myself hard. Never let myself recover which is probably the worst thing. But if I had something to tell me to chill - besides my girlfriend lol - I’d probably listen.

Just got mine in the mail yesterday. Aside from having initial issues with the fully functional clasp (because I am a moron), I'm enjoying seeing the instant feedback. I look forward to the reports from my running/hockey regimen and then golf once it gets nicer. I need to look up more information, but can you log what activity you were doing?

Edit: Just found where to input activities. unfortunately, there's no "was chasing around my dog for an hour" activity listed so I may have to get creative for that one...

Hockey was my biggest strain activity on my whoop so far. The day I worked out, had a golf lesson, then a mens league game said my strain was top 92% of all whoop athletes for the day or something like that. One thing I've noticed with weight lifting though, since your heart rate doesn't stay super high the entire time like a high cardio workout, you may feel like you're kicking your a$$ but it doesn't even give me the level of strain that beating a bucket of balls does from my experience.

It took me way too long to figure out the freaking strap and then when i did i felt even dumber because it's so simple lol.

On day 2 with mine, currently wearing my apple watch on my non dominant had and whoop on my dominant. curious to see how much difference there is in tracking between the two. for the first two nights i feel the whoop does a better job with sleep tracking. and it's nice that whoop automatically picked up my workout yesterday versus me starting and stopping it on my watch.

It's a litlte smaller than the apple watch and i don't mind the feeling of it on my dominant hand so i think it'll be great for golfing. i never liked wearing my apple watch while golfing and in the summer i get out 3-5 times a week so i wasn't tracking any of that, but with the whoop i will.

had mine for 5 months, interesting but not earth shattering. Will end it at 6 months. Worth about $8 per month, not $30

Going to ride out the 6 months and go from there.

I have had it for 2 months, it is strangely motivating and a positive value proposition thus far. Perhaps this is a "placebo" effect? Don't know, but don't care for now. Long term, we'll see. I do think it has already lead to better sleep hygiene, better use of time for fitness activities, more energy at work and with family, and overall better feeling of well being to the extent that work colleagues are noticing and asking about Whoop. I also worried I would lose interest in my Peloton after the investment 2 years ago, but it is still the single best investment in my overall fitness and still super motivating. Would be great if Whoop sticks and continues to help, but time will tell...

My biggest issue so far is that even on nights when I know I don’t sleep well it registers as sleep, and often my highest recovery days are the days I slept poorly. So either I don’t understand sleep or something is not quite right.

I do enjoy the data though. It’s interesting to see how much strain various activities cause. Was somewhat surprised that walking a round is a little more strain than an orange theory class.

Still interested to see where it goes.
