3rd Gen Srixon Q-Star Tour to be released January 17th

I have played this ball on-and-off in its first two gens. I look forward to giving these a try, specially if those 6-ball Value Packs are offered again. As you can see at Srixon's site, there appears to be a $3 bump in MSRP, certainly not a deal breaker for me.

Do we know anything about the new Q Star compares to the current Z Star?

Might only be a $3 increase in MSRP, but a $32.95 is a significant jump compared to the $19.95 I was paying. Hopefully discounts kick in soon. Also the Srixon website post doesn’t tout any changes to the ball. Even the box is the same. Maybe I should just stock up on the current model.

The principal change, and hopefully improvement, in the Gen 3 model is the SeRM cover which is said to add more greenside spin. The alignment aid is also new; not a biggie for me, but some might find valuable. I am not sure whether the core has been changed or not.

    Here's the Gen 2 box

    Here's the Gen 3 box

Not wishing to quarrel, Dalehead; quibble, maybe :)

So the new box has NEW! in blue instead of red. OK whatever. :)

I'll like to try them to see if they are better than the current ones, which didn't wow me. From what I read on golf.com, the ball is supposed to be softer, the core larger, and the cover thinner, but still spinny.

Spin Skin with Slide-Ring Material (SeRM) is a spin-enhancing urethane compound that coats the ball. Extremely resilient material enhances spin due to unique molecular structure – “movable cross-linking” Spin Skin with SeRMdigs deep into wedge and iron grooves to maximize spin and stopping power.

Seems odd that there is already a new version. Maybe last year’s did not sell as well?

I will not rush out to add to my current stock, but I am intrigued to see if there are any notable improvements.

What is the new balls compression? Also, I loved the white version, not yellow on the prior gen. Even though I prefer a yellow ball. Somehow, the prior gen yellow looked sparkly and played/felt slightly different than the white. The Soft Feel has the perfect yellow. Hopefully, it will be a good yellow.

    Nice promo vid,

So far the QStar Tour releases have been roughly 18 months or so vs Srixon’s more traditional 2 year cycle for their other models.

    1st gen - early 2017

    2nd gen - mid 2018

    3rd gen - early 2020

According to the MyGolf$py coverage of this, the overall compression remains the same as the previous version (Srixon reported 72). Aside from the cover, it does not seem like much has changed based on the initial marketing.

Seems to be mentioned on the UK site as well, which is new - pretty sure it was rebranded over here as the AD333 Tour?

Will probably be $45 vs. $40 from last year here. Will be same price as Pro a, which is being replaced with a new ball this year?! For the 'extra' price diff., going ZS.

The last generation was released in the fall of 2018 as the 2019 model. Now there is a new 2020 ball so the 2019 ball only last a little over a year. Don't like the fact that they keep changing the ball so quickly.

The AD333 Tour was released in the UK (2014) before the Q-Star Tour (2017) was released in the USA. The Q-Star Tour in the UK is new. Srixon UK site still shows the AD333 Tour. Perhaps Srixon is consolidating the AD333 Tour and Q-Star Tour into the same name for 2020..

That is why I said "roughly". It is also difficult to distinguish when the marketing campaign starts (as well as influencer reviews) vs the point which it was available for retail purchase. The point is that Srixon has not followed a strict two year cycle since inception of this (including the initial 2014 AD333 Tour available in non-US markets).

I was surprised to see that on the UK site. Maybe it wasn't selling that well in Europe? It is doubtful that the 2-piece AD333 will be rebranded in Europe as it was in the US as it simply sells too well.

So is it fair to say the new QST is a lower compression ZStar?

That is what I wanted to know too. I was planning to move up to the Z Star this season after playing the QST all of last season, but wanted to make sure Srixon didn't just rebrand the current Z Star into the new QST.

The QST is essentially a rebrand of the ZStar SL.

Just a little higher compression for the ZStar SL (80~) versus the 70ish compression the QST/AD333 Tour has been?

Same here. Appears to be a line consolidation. Always thought the original AD333 was the best two piece surlyn/ionomer covered ball for its price point in the day.

Is the new Z Star harder than before?

I've always preferred a softer ball, so I ordered 2 dozen to try. Even though the release date is tomorrow, they shipped yesterday.

Played the new QST today. I’m on vacation in Florida playing course for the first time so put these in the bag for the last two rounds. It’s soft however I found it to be short through the bag. A couple pitches I nipped super well had very little spin, did not check and rolled out 5-7 feet. Certainly a second tier ball when compared to my normal gamer the Pro V1. I do like the new side stamp. It was perfect when putting.

Been playing QST since I picked up 10 dozen on clearance last year for $10/doz 😁 For the money they perform as good as any ball I’ve played

Got mine in, but it'll be a few weeks before I get to a sim to hit them. Definitely soft, but I'm not sure I like the yellow.
