Sacramento Area Golf

My wife and I will be in the Sacramento area for three weeks in March. I would like some suggestions for golf courses to play that are under $75. I may also bop over to San Francisco to play one game there and am open to suggestions disregarding the $75 limit. Lastly, we will be in Santa Cruz for three days during the trip. Thanks for your help.

Geeez, no one on this DB plays near Sacramento/San Francisco?

San Francisco options:

Harding Park ($120ish) 2020 PGA Championship host

Presidio ($100) less famous, but old school cool, the other 'nice' San Francisco public

Santa Cruz option:

Pasatiempo, $200+ the holy grail grail of the area for not Pebble Beach

Other Bay Area: Corica Park South Course, Callippe Preserve, Baylands

For the Sacramento area I am not a lot of help. The muni courses are solid, and Haggin Oaks has a Mackenzie designed course (the other course is boring garbage though). You might try the Yocha Dehe golf club. It is a bit of a drive from Sacramento proper, but has a lot of love on this board.

Yocha de he is the best conditioned course in area, go on golf now and try and find bargain. I think its up to 100. I believe Rancho Murieta lets public play on certain days on golf now as well. North is a great layout, condition not really Country Club worthy but getting better, south a good track as well. Castle Oaks in Ione is good track but like Yocha its 40 minute drive from Sac. Turkey Creek , Catte Verdera would be next on my list. They are in Lincoln area 30 minutes east of Sac. The Ridge or Dark Horse in Auburn is a little farther drive up Highway 80 but are great tracks. I personally don't like Haggin Oaks, Ancil Hoffman is older nice course but crowded. Teal Bend near the airport good as well if you don't want to drive too far.

I landed several deals on Yocho Dehe while traveling to Sacramento last year. Each time I would drive the 45 minutes just because it was so very worth it. I also tried Oak Creek at the suggestion of some GolfWRX comments but it was no contest. Yocho is a true gem. Your wife can come for the day and do the spa then you can both have dinner/gamble after in the casino on property.

I know you said under $75. That being said I recommend trying to find a twilight time on golf now for Pasatiempo around $140. Skip another round to make it affordable. It's by far the best available course and you will thank me. Alister MacKenzie was the greatest golf architect ever and designed August National and Cypress Point among others. I can also vouch for Yocha Dehe. It's not at Pasa's level but it's a decent track. Very beautiful.

I'm sorry to hear that. None of the other courses mentioned are even half as good. That being said there are some enjoyable rounds in the area.

I've always wanted to play the parlkand style Ancil Hoffman and finally got my chance to play yestereday in 90-100+ degree heat ( thank God it hit 109  when we were leaving).

I like to walk and it was a great walk too, crowded as everyone says but it's a great track, you need to work the ball both directions and the greens can be tricky ( couldn't get the speed down so I struggled most of the day) but I enjoyed them. #16 is a great slight dogleg right with a huge oak dead center 220 yards off the Blue tees you better carry it 270 if you play the tips)
