Any car enthusiasts around here?

Curious if there’s any car guys on the boards - be it modders, restorers or track day/club racing/autoX enthusiasts?

Lots of guys here like to modify their clubs - maybe they do the same with their rides.

Tell us what you’ve got and what you do with it - Post up a pic if you’re willing to share!

I live in Canada and have gotten a bit more into driving in the snow. Theres some places around here, like parks and fields, some woods nearby...that I can take my car in. Like some winter rally type stuff

I recently bought a Toyota Rav4 TRD. I believe I owned the first one in Quebec. Its really fun to drive in this stuff.

But I'm not a modder or anything

I used to autox. '95 Eagle Talon, '99 Subaru 2.5RS (GS/ST), '02 Subaru WRX Wagon - Won 2003 Solo and ProSolo Nats in STX, 05 Mazda RX8 in BS, 93 Civic Si in STS, Took a few years off and then went back in '18 in a'13 Subaru BRZ in SSC for a year to see if it missed me, I mean, I missed it. Nope. I like a) golf, b) vacation time on a beach vs competing, c) weekends and d) nights not working on the cars - all much better.

Still have an '00 S2000 (GPW with Black/Red) with 198k miles on it on jackstands. I really need to finish updating all the rubber/plastic hoses, and all suspension/bearings/arms and stuff and getting it back on the road. I think i'll have to drop the gas tank too and put a new one up, maybe new lines too (been sitting for a few years without running)

Thing is, I'm a better driver than mechanic. With some health issues, and no lift, it's a PITA to spend time under the car, and I'm not getting any younger.

Been a car nut since 1964 when I bought my first Car - 1929 Chevy Sedan. All Stock. Since then became a Corvette Fan.. now own 2 of them -- both manual trannys. quite nice to haul my clubs to the course.

Also have a 1980 280 Sl - owned it now for 35 years

the two are 2013 Grand Sport and a 2012 Grand Sport.

I used to be a big car nut. I always had a mustang to toy with. I always tried to get as much oomph out of them as I could on a shoestring budget. I still have a love for cars, but my tastes have shifted a little. I do still love the raw power of a muscle car, but since I have to drive every day and I have a bad back, I prefer a daily driver that is comfortable. My last few vehicles have been trucks. I do still do things with them, but it's mostly visual and comfort based now, not so much performance. I might throw a tuner on them, but that's about the extent. My current truck is probably the most "stock" vehicle I've ever owned. Only thing I've done is larger tires, led fog lights and replaced the headlights with projectors. I just dont have the desire to turn a wrench anymore. If I have the time to spend working on a car, I'd rather be playing golf or hanging out with my wife.

Perhaps one day after the kid is out of college and off the payroll, I might look into getting another one. Till then, I'll just keep plugging along with the grocery getter.

While I am not a automobile enthusiast (modder), my brother is. Here is his 2004 M3.

The M3 originally came with a grey interior and my brother wanted all black. He sourced a pristine black dash, center console assembly, carpet and door panels for the entire car. Here's a few shots of that process (not finished though).

I'd say this is the work of a SERIOUS AUTO ENTHUSIAST !!!!

The following is the finished product. New (repurposed) carpet, seats (front and back), dash, console, door panels.

X8J1ELXS8N1V.jpg

Here's the rear of his car. He added carbon fiber air dams in the front and back and a whole slew of other things. Brakes, rims, tires, trunk lid, mirrors, rear view mirror, engine compartment components, badging, blah, blah, blah. He really wanted to make his M3 into something special, something he would have designed. In a round about way, he did design it. Someday it might pass on to me. He offered it to me a couple of years ago and I declined ...... for now.

His next mod to the M3 will be a carbon fiber roof and a fix on a dented front hood.

That e46 is sick!

I had one of those as well and loved it. Thought about buying another one a few times but never pulled the trigger - though in one instance it’s because the seller backed out on the way to the bank (literally) a few years ago which was really annoying!

Great car through - tons of fun to drive and drive hard.

  • 2 weeks later...

Again I realize we arent necessarily talking about these types of cars or driving. But we got pelted with about 2+ feet of snow on friday....so I took my car out on some back roads and trails.

I dont think I've ever owned a better car in the snow. Went thru some pretty deep stuff and took some turns at good speeds

Is that an AWD model? Is it on the all terrain tires?

I just picked up a 2020 RX 350 F Sport AWD. I was going to keep the GS 350 lease I had until it snowed here and it was absolutely horrible in the snow. RWD on performance tires = terrible. I almost went with a Subaru just because their AWD system is so incredible.

RAV4 TRD offroad on Falken Wildpeak AT trails

Torque vectoring AWD and the various snow/mud/rock modes, plus upgraded suspension from the other RAVS

Was surprised how good the Falkens were in the snow. I had Blizzaks on order and cancelled them

I really like the look of those Lexus RXs especially with the F sport

I did consider a subaru like you also. The Forester is awesome with their new dual X mode. The Outback Outdoor has it too.

Yeah we get a lot of snow plus a few big storms a year. Plus every spring we get floods now too. So while I enjoy the recreational aspect, the ground clearance and capabilities are handy too

My wife's 2019 Forester with Hakkapeliitta snow tires is the best "normal" vehicle I've ever driven in snow - love it. Amazing what the AWD vehicles can do these days.

I'm not a car guy, but loved the one year I had of small engine repair and just getting into a bit of auto engine stuff way back in the day, and used to be a decent home bike wrench. Now my idea of modding is just accessorizing my Wrangler. Easy stuff - LED headlights added (not pictured), painted the interior of the hardtop from the stark white to body matching tank green and put in some easy to install headliners, found some cool netting (pic is day of first crack at installing, lol, had to redo a bit) so my pup can ride around in the back in the summer and not be jumping out - for serious car guys I suppose its like I'm buying stuff for my GI Joes, lol, but I don't really don't need a lift and no performance needs.

Wife drives a Subaru Ascent. We only had about 8 inches of snow or so, that thing drove through it like it was dry pavement. I hit a patch of black ice one morning and slid maybe 10 feet or so before it regained traction. I don't think I ever felt safer after that experience.

Did you see my avatar? Holden Ute and a golfwrx golfball from my desk. Pontiac was considering bringing the Utes over, and a wagon, until they got folded up in '09. ) I had an '08 G8 GT for a couple years, and then a '16 Chevy SS 6MT before my current car. Something about them Holdens that set them apart from "GM" that lots of people don't get. Shame what they got turned in to.

I realized I didn't post what I have now up above (aside from Car ADD). I'm on my 10th Subaru. A '17 Subaru Impreza Sport. It's a good daily to complement the S2000, and yes, almost all of them have had snow tires in the winter. This season, I went with the Vredelsten Quadtrac Pro (don't call them all season) all weather tires. And I think I cursed the area. We've only had about 4-5" this year, and it all fell when I was away for work!
