Trying to make my own putter

Hey everyone, So I've been looking at trying to make my own putter and have been reading up on it around the website but I still have a few questions. I understand you have to use a CAD such as solid-works to create the design. I want to get the face CNC milled as well so i'm assuming I would have to use stainless steel of some sorts as well as taking it to a place that does milling. I am not sure how to start the design process for creating the face and measurements so all help would be greatly appreciated!

Just read the thread... What an absolute rollercoaster that was.

It was fun. Had us going for a while. Should have stayed with my first impressions. There might be some guys in there that could give you help in what you want to do.

I have designed and milled a couple of putters, I have a thread in here, bit you will have to find it yourself.

I’m not sure I understand you, is it just the face dinensions, or if its the design in general. If you have access to a CAD software, start where you think is a good start and go with trial and error from there.

Feel free to Ask any questions you might have. Im a machine designer so I work with CAD 40 hours a week, if it might help.

I did this a while ago, I'll post some pictures at some point. Some notes:

-Designed in CAD, measured some existing putters to get general size and then adjusted to get the look I was going for (putter was a gift for my Grandfather who was in a wheelchair so the size and weight was larger/heavier than standard, perfect for rolling in the living room)

-Make sure to check weight in the CAD software and make sure you are in the ballpark of your target (even better add some pockets and plan to epoxy in some weights to fine tune it)

-I got quotes on MFG.com from around the world (also a few local), the price range was huge and for this project I went cheapest which was of course overseas in Asia, I would order qty 2 or 3 so you can make a couple or try different finishing options

-Specify if you want it fully milled or if you are ok with some welding (will reduce price a lot if you are going for Anser style)

-Parts arrived and unfortunately the shop thought the welding didn't look good so their painted the putter heads gray, lol. I stripped paint and all was good.

-Finishing can be done by yourself or one of the many craftsman on this site (I used Lamont Mann and would highly recommend working with him), also note the face milling is probably better done by these guys rather than the machine shop who may not have experience going for the look you are targeting.
