I think it is the old T1100 Haz he has played for a long time. It had that silver'y metallic look to it.

Guy needs to stop trying to hit "bombs". Playing terrible.

Also, he is playing much better than Ricky at the moment.

I mean im not saying he wouldnt still have to give me some shots haha but last 15 tourneys his best finish is a T28 w/ 7 missed cuts.

I did say "at the moment".. Phil is getting old. Sad for me to see. I have been a big Phil fan over the years.

I think Phil’s strategy with the “bombs” is twofold:

Its just in his nature to show off. It’s what makes him a great watch and now with social media, he’s in heaven.I think he knows that he *probably doesn’t have any more runs of form where he plays great over a stretch of time, so he’s focusing a little more on trying to make sure that when he does have his best for much shorter spurts (3/4 rounds?), that it is still good enough to win out there.

He perplexes me. Where did his iron and wedge game go ? And even putter. Very recently his putting stats where great.

His iron and wedge game are embarrassing at the moment ( to his standards ). Please Phil. Call butch and call bones.

I agree, Tiger has found success with the strategy game. Phil has all the tools to play that way as well. If he wanted to. I think his wedges and iron game are decent, he is just not playing a smart style of golf right now. so he ends up with a few blow up holes a round.

Also saw he is playing a triple track ball. I haven't seen him line it up on putts though. Maybe just a marketing play?

Looks like he’s playing a big iron too. Just saw a 9 iron shot blown over the green ( yesterday’s round ). Wonder if he’s playing the maverick iron to market it and struggling to tame the beast with those so to speak. As in doing surgery with a baseball bat kind of thing.

Don't think I've seen him hit a fairway yet, unfortunately.

He was playing the epic forged for a while. Those are long range missiles.

He’s picked up some speed, now he can fine tune distance control and sharpen up his short game. I don’t think he’s been practicing his actual golf game much. I think he’s been focused on getting fit and longer this off-season.

I can see his game rounding into shape by the Masters. In my mind, he’s just getting back into golf after a long layoff.

Don't know if it is still true but last year he said he uses the lines on longer putts but trusts his own eyes more on shorter putts.

Pretty sure he isn't playing with a MAVRIK iron.

I think its the epic flash. Saw earlier today towards the end of his round hes trying to drive the green on a short par4, balls plugs in a bunker and he ends up bogeying. His grip it and rip it approach is fun to watch cuz he doesn't have a 1 way miss like most. ?

For me it’s concern. You won’t find much of a bigger Phil fan than I.

I saw a couple shortgame magicians shots. But I also saw him miss greens from everywhere. Including the few fairways he hit. This is a guy who you used to could have spotted him the tee shot in the fairway and he’d have been very hard to beat. Now it’s not just tee balls. It’s everything. And don’t anyone say age. Has nothing to do with the dispersion that I’m seeing. It’s all over the map.

I agree. I think it has more to do with just being unwilling to give up yards. He wants to hit bombs instead of fairways and greens.

He said that last year. Only going to play courses that suit his game. Wider fairways, short rough. He wants to bomb and gouge it and is not too concerned with accuracy. Seems he and Bryson are obssesed with distance.

Age likely caught up with Phil but I have to think his full swing instructor sucks. He hits it all over the lot. Isn’t good swing instruction about hitting your target? Dump Andrew.

Do you guys have any evidence he is just trying to hit bombs other than social media? Are you sure that his real strategy is just calves like Adonis and hitting bombs?

Phil has nothing to prove or lose at this point in his career. If Butch couldn’t get through to him in majors does anybody else think he’s actually listening to anyone at this point besides someone running the pressure plate software saying “whoa do that again..you just gained 2 mph clubhead speed”?

Phil plays "go for it" golf. Always has, always will. He says safe golf is boring. It's worked pretty well for him. He's probably the best 50 year old golfer on the planet.

Just watch him swing. He is falling over. He has always been loose with his swing but had good balance. He is throwing his body at the ball.
