Best course you've played in Cabo

Recommended Posts

This course no longer exists. The ocean holes are gone, now a beach club. The entire place was re-named and what’s left of it is now a private club.

From a news release... “Jack Nicklaus is overseeing the project. During a recent site visit, Nicklaus concluded that the course routing required adjustment to maximize the site’s real estate potential and create a financially viable project.”

So the land was more valuable than the course so they sold the ocean holes to developers basically. https://www.golfcoursearchitecture.net/content/redesign-of-ocean-course-takes-shape-at-cabo-del-sol

Both at Diamante are really good. We leave Saturday and will play Dunes a couple of times, and El Cardonal a couple of times for the week. They also have a par 3 course and a putting course which we will have to try out as well. Then we are staying for a second week in town. I don't really know too many options outside of the Diamante resort, but we will get a few more games in. I think we are playing Club Campestre and maybe Palmilla. Not sure about the others. I cannot wait to get down there again, it is so much fun.

Driver: Ping G430 Max

Fairway: Ping G425 Max

Hybrid: Adams Pro Black

Irons (5 to U): Ping I525

Wedges (56, 60): Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth

I was there in September and played Quivira, Querencia, Diamante Dunes, and El Cardonal.

Quivira: I think this is a must play due to the views of the Pacific. We played in severe wind but it was very enjoyable, you will hit some crazy uphill and downhill shots.Querencia: Is private but we got on due to looking at real estate. I was very impressed with the club house and grounds. The course is very fun and plays pretty short but you better hit the fairway. A couple of holes were closed as they are making a new hole (I think number 7) is new. Diamante Dunes: The number one ranked course in Mexico by some is very good. its wide open and my caddie helped a ton. Really fun course and was not windy at all. El Cardonal: I really liked this course but the day we played it was so windy. With Quivira, The Dunes, and El Cardonal all being on the Pacific I they all are susceptible to severe wind. I can not make a fair assessment of El Cardonal due to the wind.

Overall they all are fantastic properties. I'd recommend a forecaddie at all of the courses, they make the round so much more enjoyable due to helping you pick a line off the tee, reading putts, and I am told they will locate your ball if you hit it in the desert (I wouldn't know about that, I'm still playing the ProV1x that I bought last spring).

I called the Cove Club for a time for a trip coming up in March and they wanted $450 a round. No thanks considering the re-design.

Usually we stay at Pueblo Bonito properties and play Quivira. Between the courses we can get on which is best- Cabo Del Sol Desert, Cabo Real or Puerto Los Cabos? I'd love to play one of the private clubs but don't know how to get a time since we're staying in the harbor area at Breathless and not at a hotel with privileges at a course.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

How do all these courses sustain themselves at those rates? I know tourism drives the area, but had no idea Cabo is that popular as a golf destination.

I probably only have time for 1 round so want it to be the best there. Seems like Cabo Del Sol should be up there on the list.

El Dorado is very good but it isn’t in the top 5 in Cabo. Probably top 10 though.

The only one I commonly see way overrated is Quivira. I honestly don’t think it is a very good golf course at all 3 cool holes that are unplayable in a heavy wind and that’s it.

The order on https://www.top100golfcourses.com/golf-courses/north-america/mexico?page=1 is not exactly aligned with my opinion but it is the general consensus I suppose.

Either way, many good courses in Cabo.

how do you get on diamante? we are going in AUG, staying at the esperanza (they cant get me on), but if not any ideas?

also what course do you recommend if only playing one round ( can get on the following )

-Quivira - Club Campestre - Cabo Real- Puerto Los Cabos - Cabo Del Sol Desert Course ( Ocean will be private most likely by the time we are there ) - Palmilla

You can get on Diamante if you sit through the real estate presentation. It's not actually that bad and nowhere near as aggressive as some of the time share presentations I have been to. And access to Dunes makes it all the more worthwhile.

I also loved Puerto Los Cabos. The food, drinks and service at the comfort stations was incredible and actually better than at Dunes.

Look into the multi round deals that have with Cabo Real and Campestre, too.
