HELP Mystery Scottsdale/Fountain Hills golf course

Next month I'll be visiting a buddy in Fountain Hills for a golf trip and he said one of the "surprise" courses we'll be going to used to be private but he won't tell me the name. Does anyone know what that might be? I'm not sure if it just became public or was private many years ago.

I believe Sunridge Canyon was originally private...

Misunderstood the post possibly - I read it as if the course is in Fountain Hills. But Vally below had the broader perspective. Southern Dunes and Quintero are 2 very notable courses which were private and are now public. Along with Sunridge and Las Sendas (think they have tried twice); Wickenburg Ranch and Verde River had early plans to be private, but never got there from the start. Red Mountain Ranch..I think considered itself private, but is basically a public course.

If it is a FH/SC course, then Sunridge may be it; Hopefully it is not Desert Canyon which has been billed as "semi Private" in the past.

Take your pick: Southern Dunes, Quintero, Sunridge Canyon, Las Sendes tried to go private.....the list goes on.

Is it a nice course?

Sunridge is fine. Some good holes. Some questionable ones. In the top 50-75 courses in the area (public or private).

Fountain Hills is weird. Eagle Mountain is fun but very easy. Firerock (the private course down the street from Sunridge and EM) is almost architecture malpractice for using the land it is on always just a little bit off but not to the extent Quintero does (seriously, would be hard to design a worse course on the land than the disaster that Quintero is).

We Ko Pa Cholla is boring and repetitive and Saguaro is amazing. Forget Desert Canyon. It is, well, you can play golf there.

Overall, Fountain Hills feels like a place that should be a lot nicer than it actually is.
