Is Webb currently the most underrated American golfer?

Just like the title says. 6 wins, 11 seconds and 8 thirds in tournaments in the past 10 years. Making over 90% of cuts in the same time frame. Top 20 in the FEC in the past 4 years. Yet he's rarely mentioned by many as a top-tier player...and even most ardent golf followers would probably wouldnt list him as a top-10 player in the world even though he is solidly.

Yes, by a mile in my opinion. He's now #7 in the WGR. He just quietly does his thing. The reason he lost his game a few years ago? Putting. It took a while to adjust from the broomstick. But during all that time, he never lost his card and plugged away it it.

Yes, especially with the fact that he carries 5 woods in his bag.

Simpson winning another major this year might be worth an outside bet.

List all the stats you want, when it comes time for the Ryder Cup, I don't want him anywhere near the team. Same thing goes for his prayer buddy Bubba. Like them as individuals but his team records are not good. He's 6-6-2 in the president's cup and 4-4-1 in the Ryder Cup. Mediocre at best.

Could be underrated, but he does not appear to be bothered by it, The man is just a really good player.

I look at Simpson a lot like Kuchar. He is a good cash register. Six wins in his career. I think people look at him as they should. I good pro that doesn't have to worry about his card. Not a star. Not a guy you think about come major time.

I like this as well..... Both have players, of course Webb has a major which is HUGE. Being announced at any event, social or competitive as former US Open winner is pretty darn amazing.

Excellent career, but well short of a Hall of Fame trajectory. He’s only 2-5 in playoffs. If he’d been better, he’d be kinda/sorta in the HoF discussion.

They all make Webb look good.

Was T5 at Augusta last year, and is around 60-1 right now to win the Masters. Might be worth it indeed.

Accurate driver, good putter doesn't necessarily get the attention it should. One of the few guys with a winning record at the 2018 Ryder Cup. I think the buggywhip swing makes people think less of his game, but it has worked for him for a fairly long time. That and the pop up in the 2014 RC and the shank vs Poulter in 2012 are what people tend to think about though.

Who? Ty Webb?

Webb's stats are quite impressive across the board. Scoring average, greens in regulation, putting, etc.

He's just not flashy enough. Goes about his business, no controversy, no suspensions, just a highly competent touring professional.

The Ryder cup is a 3 day exhibition, played only every other year, only involves some of the worlds best, and is a team event in an individual sport. It's overall significance in the game is quite small, unless you're European.

Definitely not a bad thought that he is, particularly when you compare him to some of the more heralded players. Heck, we here much more about Tony Finau than we do Webb and he is stuck with one opposite field win versus the career that Webb has had.

His record with Bubba Watson is 3-3 and he's 1-1-1 in singles

Comparatively speaking, he's a Ryder Cup stalwart.

Nothing in golf beats a straight drive and ultra confidence with the putter. His putting is borderline ridiculous.

Can't disagree. I follow golf closely and knew he was playing well but didn't realize he was up to #7. If you take out the struggles transitioning with the anchoring ban he's probably got a couple more wins. Regardless if you extrapolate his stats into his 40s he's trending towards a win total in the teens. If he finds a second major I think he's going to be a Hall of Famer.

Simpson has been good for a long time. He was first team AJGA for like 4 straight years in the early 2000s. That means he was in the best 10 juniors in the country from the time he was 14 to 17 years old. He kept it up in college (3x all american), and and on tour. That's hard to do - be that good for that long. He's got a major and a Players. Dowd's not exactly bad looking either. So he's very very good. But I'm surprised he hasn't won more. Honestly I would have expected 10-15 tour wins and 2 majors by now.

Maybe because he is one of the nicest guys on Tour? Major champion, TPC champion multiple time winner.
