Headed to US Open at Winged Foot - Need Recommendations

Hi Everyone - as the title suggests, I'll be headed up to the US Open this summer and I wanted to get some recommendations from everyone.

What hotel(s) does everyone recommend?Coming from the DC area, would everyone recommend driving or taking the train? Right now I'm planning on driving.I'm sure I'll come up with more questions as we get closer, but wanted to knock out the big ones first. Thanks!

I've been going up there every year for the past 6 years to play in a Four Ball tournament at WF, I live down in Southeast Va and have done the drive all but once, its not fun but its not the worst(I go up the Eastern Shore) and once you're up there its nice to have your own car. As far as places to stay, check out Terrytown. Its about 20-25mins past WF but a nice area and I think the hotel rates are a little more reasonable. I would jump on booking a room ASAP though, you would be surprised how full hotels can be in that area. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any other questions!

I've done the drive and the train from DC to NY. Train is easy and quick and comfortable. But it's expensive. I believe that this stretch of Amtrak is the only one that actually generates money in the country. They run on losses everywhere else (or so I heard anyway). A lot of business people do that trip pretty frequently and it'll cost something like $200 for a return trip on the regular train and maybe $50-100 more for the Acela (faster). The drive is not too bad though. If you take the train, you can stay in the city and then take Metro North from Grand Central to Mamaroneck. I imagine they'll have some kind of shuttle from there to the course. That train will be busy though. Hotels near Grand Central are not cheap, but it's easy to get around the city if you stay somewhere further afield.

There are a bunch of hotels relatively close to Winged Foot (within 15 miles), but you can bet that prices will be through the roof for US Open week. You'll likely be able to find comparable prices (or perhaps even lower prices) for lodging in the city.

Given the choice, I'd take the train from DC. If you book far enough in advance, it's pretty reasonable. You won't need a car to access the US Open. There will be shuttles running from the Mamaroneck train station on the New Haven Line to WFGC, which is about a mile away. You could also walk it, though there aren't sidewalks on Fenimore Road once you get out of the flats and the walk is up a pretty big hill.

I live 4 miles away from WF and familiar with the area.

There isn't much of hotels in Larchmont or Mamaroneck.

You can find Radisson and Residence Inn by Marriott, in New Rochelle which's only 15 mins away.

White Plains also 15 mins away and there are Crowne Plaza, Cambria Hotel and The Ritz-Carlton.

If you book now based on the new dates, you should be able to score some decent rate.

yeah, I had tickets - had planned to make it a stay in the city holiday for the wife & daughter (somewhere near Grand Central) while me & the son took the train out.

Had tix for Wed + Thurs...I know I can't go in Sept (if it happens) so already refunded

Still plan on being there at least for 4 tournament days. Expect at least 1-4 more days inc for dinner, training and uniform p/u. Will also be working and watching the players.

Everything is ramping up post NY state re-opening. Have been getting update notices and emails from USGA what is going on.

Yes there will again be shuttles from Mamaroneck train station as in past US Opens inc. 2006.

Currently there are changes to public parking and access to WF. Tbd if there will be a shuttle to the course. The daily attendance is stil tbd on size limit but will definitely be restricted.
