Carnoustie as a single

Does anyone know the process at Carnoustie for getting on as a single? Will be there at the end of February, if that makes a difference, because it's the Winter season.

Question for the experts. I play at 10 am and should have plenty of time for a second round. Would you suggest a second loop on the championship (another 180£), one of the other two (45£) or is there someplace worth seeing on the drive back to SA? Looking at the map, it appears most of the other course I’ve got targeted are south of SA (Elie, Crail, etc) and wouldn’t make sense that day.

I've played at Panmure a couple of times, only a couple of miles back towards St Andrews. Its claim to fame is that it was used by Ben Hogan as a practice ground before Hogan won his only Open Championship at Carnoustie. The first and last couple of holes are kind of plain, but the middle is really good fun. It won't be as demanding as Carnoustie, but that could be a good thing for a second round. Thanks for this. I've sent them an inquiry. I knew there was a spot up there I wanted to check out. I swear, I'm starting to lose track of all my research and going back and covering the same ground time and again.

I know we've talked before and you know what it's like to dive into a golf trip. I think I've thoroughly exhausted GolfWRX. Is there another site or source you suggest? Is Golf Club Atlas a winner?

GCA is useful, but it can get up it's own backside pretty regularly and needs even more grains of salt, IMHO ;-)

Be careful with Top 100. Lists are made for each county regardless of the quality of courses. There are loads of courses listed which aren't worth travelling an hour let alone over an ocean to play. The overall top 100 is not very different to other lists. Still, it's not a bad place to look for initial info.

NCG released a top 100 fun courses in GB&I. Since most travellers know about the top 100ish courses, this list is an excellent supplement for those looking for interesting courses to play. I think you will find the list on the first page of GolfClubAtlas.

GolfClubAtlas is an excellent resource for finding info on courses. There isn't a site that comes close. It's a pity the search function is average at best.
