Orlando Golf: Champions Gate CC vs Celebration Golf Club?

Looking to add one more round on an upcoming trip

Can’t go wrong with either one. CGCC has better drainage in case of rain, but both are very good layouts. Florida residents get a discount at Celebration. My only complaint with CGCC is the size of the bunkers. They are huge. If you get in the middle of one of those monsters, you’ll have 25’ of sand to rake.

I prefer ChampionsGate CC. Celebration is a little too lay-up ish for my tastes. ChampionsGate has a far better finishing hole and I think is the superior design and should be in great condition. Celebration is nice and it's fun to go to downtown Celebration afterward and get a drink and a bite to eat.

I'd agree with Richie, Celebration is quite a 'fiddly' course whereas CGCC gives the driver a work out. Celebration is tighter and shorter and can get very wet too. Both have lake driving ranges but I like the facilities at CGCC better.

Agree- I'd do CGCC over Celebration all day long. Played 36 there in January before the PGA Show and it was in amazing shape.

My issue with celebration is the bermuda rough around the greens. Its like sparse/thin hair plugs. The grass is 2-3" long but the ball goes straight to the black mud/clay base and makes it very difficult to get the wedge under the ball. If you find yourself short-sided it can be nearly impossible to get the ball up and within 10ft of the hole.

I dont mind the target golf off the tee so much. Lets you hit long irons, hybrids & fairway woods more, which is a nice change of pace from just bomb it.

Agree with the assessment that Championsgate Country Club is the better course. I live in Celebration but probably only play 25% of my rounds at CGC. The course is extremely finicky off the tee...I only allow myself to hit driver on five holes, as most holes there severely punish you the further off the tee you go. The course's first 12 holes are always in really good shape, but then the course turns through the woods, and the conditions take a turn for the worse on holes 13 through 17. I don't get the impression the grounds crew has attempted to figure out how to handle these five holes with the shade of the woods and the damp conditions of the ground, as many of the tee boxes are bare dirt and the green surrounds leave you with many thin lies.
