The combo set on these would be beautiful. The driver I tried at the Show Demo day and they felt nice. They did look awesome.

My good friend became a Honma ambassador last year when they reached an agreement with the Golf Galaxy here to not only sell their stuff, but dedicate a whole corner of the store for their elaborate club displays and a SIM just for Honma (for the record, I think they're already about to do away with it). He got the full treatment last year including going out to their US HQ in the San Diego area....funny timing - while they were there, the product guys had to stop their presentation and run to an emergency meeting. Turned out to be Mark King's announcement, haha. Anyway - at that time they explained that they would push two extremely segmented lines in the US: TW line (now TR) which is focused on traditional players-oriented gear.....and then the Beres line which is (as you put it), the overpriced bling-heavy stuff that's definitely way more GI. So unless they've changed anything for this year, that stuff hasn't gone away....just a totally separate line with a specific demographic.

Side note: doesn't look like my buddy will be continuing any relationship with them this year, but he did get a full setup last year with plenty of extras. One thing I got to try out last year was their tour ball (don't recall the name) and it was great. Really wish they were more readily available.

Drivers remind me of the old Bridgestone J33R heads from the top.

Stuff looks good.

I play the TW747 irons and have been beyond pleased. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to see the TR20 line at Honma House in Carlsbad and it is all very impressive. Considering pricing of other manufacturers and the quality you get in return I don't see a reason why Honma shouldn't appeal to more golfers.

Someone mentioned the driver looks like Bridgestone and I agree. That’s a great thing! Looks so sleek and clean and very JDM like. Love it!

I was able to do an indoor driver fitting with the Honma rep for Texas, and let me tell you, these drivers are LEGIT! Not only did I pick-up 2-3 mph more ball speed than my Epic Flash SZ with AD-IZ 7X, but the dispersion was incredible. Twice I hit a ball and turned to the rep and said, “Big Miss!” Both of them went straight, just shorter. ? We tried a Diamana DF 6X, the Ventus Black 7X, and some royal blue shaft with silver graphics that was in the rep’s driver, and the Ventus in the 440 head was the winner.

The rep is coming to Louisiana at the end of the month, so we’re going to re-do the fitting outside to confirm everything. Crazy good drivers! 168 ball speed average with the EFSZ, 170-171 with the Honma.

Got to demo the whole line last week and they are all sexy. I'm very familiar with Honma line as I played both drivers extensively last year with the upgraded Vizard FD (red shaft in pics above) and FP (blue shaft in pics above) "Made in Japan" shafts they offer in the new TR drivers. Love the shape of the drivers but honestly not much difference at address from last year's TW747 line. Sole definitely has more curb appeal. Out of the two TR heads I liked the smaller 440 head. The shocker for me was I hit the lower line XP driver the best. Never considered it because of the slightly closed face. But that was easy to adjust to be more square. I usually play S-flex but the FP-6x was a great combo with the XP head.

The TR20 irons are stunning. Love how they resemble the old LB irons my dad used to play. The V irons were surprisingly buttery and I'd bag those in a heart beat if I were on the market for a new set. The P felt a little more muddy/chunky but definitely more forgiving. And don't sleep on the TW-X irons. Those fit well in their line as well for anyone that needs more trajectory and distance.

As I understand it, yes.....however I would defer to the guys who have posted recently with their experience demo'ing the new line and/or spending time at the Honma House in CA. I do agree that the 747 is beautiful iron. For my buddy's setup last year, he went with 747 4-6 and then Rose Proto blades 7-10. I made consider giving them a go when he inevitably replaces them very soon

It's well worth the change. I was a long time Srixon guy and have been very impressed with Honma. I had the opportunity to hit the TR20 Tuesday at Honma House and I am beyond happy with how it performed. The head feels light but very fast and sounds amazing. My swing felt awful because I was tired from walking 18 that morning but you can tell this driver is very forgiving even on bad swings. If you can get the weights dialed in I would say you would be hard pressed to find a better performing driver on the market.

  • 1 month later...

I got a smoking deal on the TR20v's so will have them next week. I used to play the 747v and loved those so if these are even better than those I will be pumped! These always seem to have my favorite shaft modus 105 stock so win win!

I will do an on course review pending I find an open golf course!

Nice to hear! Did you do a combo set? Can you compare the two? Any offset pics in the long irons?

I'm a fitter, and both sets of been winning or in the top 2 basically every fit. The TW-X is also a great iron. Below are pictures of the 5 iron in the V and P. They make an unbelievable combo set. The lofts are strong, and I've had a few sets where we weakened the loft.

The iron that is in the wrapping is the TR20P and the other is the TR20V, both are the 5 iron. To my eye, the offset isn't dramatically different, the blade length, sole width and shape of the iron heads are different. They blend well together. Let me know if anyone wants pictures of the other irons. I've got two a combo set of the TR20P/V and a full set of the TR20P on the build wall at the moment. I'm also currently gaming the TR20V with a TR20P 4 iron.

The driver is also a great club. I won't sit here and tell you it's faster than anything else, but I would put it up against anything else and say it has a chance to win. The 440 really looks good to my eye and I've always been more biased towards the smaller head. I only have the Honma shaft that Rose helped design to test at the moment. Waiting on some adapters to test some other shafts out and hoping Club Conex comes out with the UniFit adapter soon so I can do a true head to head test.

Wow thank you for the comparison pics. I am very pleased with my decision. The tr20p also looks incredible. Any comparisons on feel, forgiveness and ball flight between the two models?
